The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season hasn’t been kind to Ross Chastain. The Trackhouse Racing driver has secured just one top-5 finish in the No:1 Chevy and other than the 17 laps he led, there hasn’t been any positives about the veteran’s season.
Amidst all these struggles, his hunger for race wins is still there and it was evident in his media session ahead of this weekend’s race at Martinsville. He recalled the time he got to spend with the track president and how it has inspired him to win races, adding legacy of the iconic track.
I’ve been fortunate enough to get to know Clay Campbell (Martinsville Speedway President) up there a little bit and go to breakfast with him. Hearing him tell stories of his family’s history in and around Martinsville and the legacy he wants to continue on is really cool. That grandfather clock is a real thing you can take home when you win, which is so cool.
Ross Chastain said at Martinsville.
The veteran racer pointed out that the track represents the legacy of the NASCAR and France family. So, Ross Chastain desperately wants to add the Grandfather Clock to his trophy collection. But at the current pace Trackhouse team has produced so far this season, it doesn’t look like a goal achievable.
Everything in that track is built on the foundation around NASCAR and what the France family and the Campbell family have done together. The grandfather clock is something that I want. I want it really bad, and I’ll work a really long time to try to take one home.

NASCAR insider explains the real reason behind Ross Chastain’s 2026 struggles
In the latest episode of his podcast, senior NASCAR journalist Jordan Bianchi talked about Ross Chastain and Trackhouse Racing’s performance in the 2026 season. He pointed out that the poor run is the result of organizational failure and not the product of driver errors.

It’s not just a Chastain thing. I mean, it’s an organizational thing. We’re sitting here celebrating SVG because he’s finished 14th.
Jordan Bianchi said.
Further talking about the point, he asserted that Justin Mark‘s team hasn’t met their standards so far in the season and they need to work extra hard and be more productive. Chevrolet generally struggling in the 2026 season is a major disadvantage for them as well.
Now, granted, within the bubble, that’s a really good time. It’s a really good run for him. But their standards should be higher.
Jordan Bianchi added.
One key reason behind the poor season of Ross Chastain and Trackhouse Racing is the Chevy car body change ahead of the season. Even Hendrick Motorsports hasn’t fully figured out the car’s balance. So, it might take some time for the team to get back to winning form.
