Ryan Blaney is ready to ‘rise to the occasion,’ at Martinsville Speedway to take home his first win in 2022
Ryan Blaney
Ryan Blaney is one of the unluckiest drivers in the 2022 grid as he is yet to secure a win this season though he is consistently making the top 10 every race. His consistency over his rivals earned him the joint championship leader spot alongside Hendrick Motorsports driver and former champion Chase Elliott. Like Blaney, he does not have a win in 2022.
Thea Team Penske Racing star will hit the 0.526-mile Virginia, Martinsville short track for the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400 and will be hoping for another good day at the race track. He will be in contention to make sure that the Richmond won’t happen again as he, for the 10th time in his career, failed to convert a 100 lap lead to a win Cup Series career.
The 2020 Martinsville Speedway Cup Series runner-up has come forth expressing his views and hopes for the upcoming weekend race and shares insight into his whole 2022 season.

Ryan Blaney acknowledged that he and his team had a chance at winning at Martinsville the last four times they were here as they had the best car but they lacked the final execution in all those times. He went on to say the team is working on avoiding any mistakes and might be able to get a first 2022 win in Martinsville this weekend.
“I feel like three of the last four times we’ve been there, we’ve had a really good shot to win that race and probably had the best car and just we did not execute at the end of that race,” Ryan Blaney told NASCAR.com.
“Kind of gave those away, to be honest with you. That’s something we’ve tried to work on — being able to rise to the occasion coming down to late pit stops and just not making mistakes. Hopefully, we’ve gotten that better. You just never know how you’re going to run at these places, especially with the new car,” Ryan Blaney added.
Ryan Blaney shreds his hopes that the team might be able to use the data from the old car to better use on Sunday but stated that there exists a lot of uncertainty with the Next Gen cars. He went on to say his team was able to overcome the cerin issue to book a place at the top of the Championship table but added that he liked seeing a win in that tally as well.
“Hopefully, you can still use some of the things you did well with the old car at this track that you can apply to the new car. You don’t know that until you get out there and practice, get into the race and see how everything’s going. A little bit is known, but a lot of it is unknown,” says Ryan Blaney.
“Everyone’s had their issues. We’ve just been able to overcome some of those and be tied leading the points. We’d like to have a win already. I thought we had a shot to win a couple of them, just didn’t fall in our favor,” Ryan Blaney added.
