2023 NASCAR Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney is one of the most influential and dominate racers of his generation. His evolution into a consistent championship contender is the product of the significant of hard work he out in in his junior years. He has the best mentor he could ask for in his father Dave Blaney, in the formative years.

Dave Blaney was one of the best midfield drivers in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, with more than 400 Cup starts and over 120 Xfinity starts in his name. A win in the second division, a Chilly Bowl win and USAC championship has been his best moments. One of the biggest lessons Ryan Blaney got from his father was racing etiquette and controlled aggression. He recalled these learning moments amidst the Carson Hocevar controversy at Michigan.

I mean, everyone’s line is different. I can’t really speak for anybody else. Always in my mind, I was raised, my father raised me, you know, he raced for a long time.

Ryan Blaney said at Michigan Motor Speedway.

Hid dad was always with him teaching him the dos and don’ts on the track. Whenever Ryan Blaney has been involved in over aggressive incidents in his teens, his father got involved and made sure his son realizes his mistakes. This has made him a consistent driver, who take calculated risks, though eh still has some anger issues to fix.

So, I had that going for me that he kinda was able to teach me the dos and don’ts. And I’ve been chewed out a lot when I was younger for doing the wrong thing and being overly aggressive and costing somebody else. My dad chewed my ass out when I did that.

Ryan Blaney revealed.

The ex-racer believed in instant teaching moments and whenever the veteran is in such situation, from his Late Model days, Blaney Sr. got involved. The young generation of drivers lacks that kind of a mentor or family member that keeps them in the line. These factors play a significant role in drivers like Hocevar and Ross Chastain being super aggressive.

I did it a few times in Late Models when I was like 13, and you know, he set it right. He set the line, he said, ‘This is wrong. You do not race this way. This is just how it is.’  It was one of those situations where I’m racing someone hard, and I made a mistake, like I slipped up and I spun him out, and it wasn’t intentional, but even those mistakes, dad would make me clean up right away.

Ryan Blaney added.
