The second lap of the NASCAR Cup Series All-Star race at Dover Motor Speedway witnessed one of the wildest wrecks in the history the exhibition race. RFK Racing’s No:60 driver Ryan Preece was in the middle of it, as he continues to found himself in some of the most brutal wrecks in the Next-Gen era history.

The Ford Mustang driver was battling for positions in the midfield alongside Todd Gilliland and Kyle Larson. Amidst the desperate attempt to overtake his rivals, the Front Row Motorsports driver made contact with Preece and then the HMS racer. It started a mele that collected the likes of Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Daniel Suarez, Cole Custer, John Hunter Nemechek, and Michael McDowell.

The Mohawk sponsored driver slammed hard into the wall and as he came back to the track, the Ford burst into flames. He was immediately told to get out of the car buy his spotter, before the safety team came into out the fire. Talking about the incidents post-race, he admitted that it was his fault that led to the incident.

I’m fine, but I seem to take big hits. But no, I don’t know what happened. Obviously, I got to see a replay, but if it was anything, it was probably close on my part. Going into Turn 1, and just got sideways …If it was my fault, I’m sorry. Tough way to not finish a race on Lap 1.

Ryan Preece said post-race, as reported by motorsport.com.

Later, the veteran racer took it to social media and shared images as well as videos of the incident. He admitted against that it was Ryan Preece‘s mistake that led to the incident and asserted that he feels bad for other drivers getting their race ruined because of him.

The big hits always seem to find me. This one’s my fault. Thought I’d be clear before 1, and we weren’t. Hate that others got tore up along with us. No points lost. Onto Charlotte.

Later talking to the media, the veteran admitted that he went sideways after coming down the track on turn 1 while duelling Gilliland. He shouldn’t have pushed that much such early in the race as the incident should’ve been avoided.

I must have just come down on Todd [Gilliland] going into Turn 1, and I got sideways from that. So that’s a pushing an issue that I probably shouldn’t have pushed that lap and yeah, we’ll move forward to next week.

Ryan Preece told Frontstretch.

Furthermore, he admitted that the qualifying and how shuffled the field played a key role in the incident. He regrets the move, as he cost a $1 million payday to him as well as the other drivers involved in the wreck.

Just because the way qualifying was, it shuffled the field up so much, that there was a lot of you had to go. And probably shouldn’t have because ultimately, you’re out of the race, so what’s it matter at that point?

Ryan Preece added.

The comments from the RFK Racing veteran are on point and shows how a small mistake can ruin races with how close the competition is in the Next-Gen era. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the coming races this season.
