Coming into the 2025 season, Shane van Gisbergen had a lot of pressure on his shoulders as he was making his Cup series full-time debut after a solid one-year stint in the Xfinity Series with Kaulig Racing. Other than some good outing on road courses, this season has been clearly disappointing for the three times Supercars champion.

In his 14 races so far in the season, he has secured just one top 10 finish that came at COTA. He hasn’t been able to produce good runs on oval tracks, where he has very limited experience. His best finish ever on the track came two weeks ago at Charlotte Motor Speedway, a P14. The No:88 Chevy drivers was determined to score a maiden oval top 10 finish on Sunday at Nashville, but Kyle Busch had another plan.

The two times Cup series winning driver of Richard Childress Racing, made an aggressive move on the restart during the Cracker Barrel 400 that cost SVG multiple position. Shane van Gisbergen went on a radio rant due to the disappointment, as with the career best P23 qualifying run and with the strong car he had, the rookie had high hopes.

What the f**k was that 8 doing? What a d**khead.

Shane van Gisbergen said on team radio.

Despite all the difficulties, the racing veteran was able to produce a good run that earned him a P25 finish, earning 12 points on the day. Unfortunately, it was the worst finish of the day for a Trackhouse Racing driver. On his team radio after the race, SVG admitted that they didn’t maximize the cars pace enough but promised that he will get better.

We had good speed there, just didn’t maximise… We’ll get better. Nice job, thank you guys.

Shane van Gisbergen said on radio after the race.

Shane van Gisbergen admits to his mistakes post-race

After the race, SVG took it to social media and shared his thoughts on the performance with his fans. He admitted that some mistakes he made and a wrong a strategy move resulted in him ending up outside the top-20. The Kiwi racer is coming out of the weekend with the mixed feelings and is going into next-week race with determination to bounce back.

We had a fast Red Bull Motors. Chevy today! Just put myself in a couple of bad spots and missed the strategy a bit. I guess we just didn’t execute when it counted. Still great to be in the mix and feels like we are making progress every week! Onto Michigan.

Next weekend will mark the track debut for SVG at Michigan International Speedway and he will be hoping that FireKeepers Casino 400 will be strong for her. The 400 miles race with 200 laps, is surely going to be a tough challenge for the youngster. So, the veteran has to bring his A-game and avoid the mistake of this week, to have a good day.

The week after MIS is going to be a something to look forward to for SVG as Mexico City will host the event. He will be one of the front runners for the event, due to his road course racing prowess as well as the solid history of Trackhouse has on these tracks. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the No:88 Chevy team.
