The 2024 NASCAR season has witnessed Shane van Gisbergen, the three times V8 Supercars champion, establish himself as a driver to invest on for the future with his Xfinity Series championship chase. He has won three races in the second tier with Kaulig Racing and if he can continue his impressive form in the Ovals, can make it to the last-4.
Shane van Gisbergen has been making a lot of progress in the Cup series has well with his part-time outings in Cup Series with Kaulig and Trackhouse Racing. He came close to few wins in the road course events this season but has failed to pull of the same magic as he did in 2023 Chicago Street race. His most recent close calls were last Sunday at the Watkins Glen.
He was on the front row most of the race and was giving Chris Buescher and Ross Chastain a run for their money. On the final lap entering the bust stop, he made contact with the wall and it enabled RFK’s Buescher to muscle his was to the lead to secure the win. SVG is furious with himself over the mistake and final result.
The race was awesome with Ross and Chris and the others in the end. I’m gutted we couldn’t get it but I had a lot of fun, but I’m pretty angry at myself.Shane van Gisbergen said via Motorsports.com.
Shane van Gisbergen admits it was a driver error that cost him a win
SVG went onto admit that what cost him the race was his driver error that gave everything Buescher needed to secure the lead. He is gutted about the mistake and admitted that what Buescher did for the win was just hard racing and there was nothing malicious.
Driver error, yeah. I knew Chris was really [going to] send it and push me if he could get there and as I turned in and got a little bit loose and clipped the inside wall and just driver error. I’m gutted.Shane van Gisbergen said.
The 2024 season is not yet over fort SVG. Though he doesn’t have many races left to be in the fight for wins in the Cup, he has a lot to fight for the Xfinity Series. He needs to be on his best form till end of the year to make sure he is in the best spot going into 2025 as a full-time Cup driver.
