The 2024 NASCAR Cup season has been a story of up and downs for No:22 Ford driver Joey Logano. The two times champion came into the season with the hopes of redemption after disastrous 2024 campaign. But the star to the season till he won the All-Star race was a roller coaster ride form the veteran.
Since the North Wilkesboro triumph, he was able to be more productive and later won a race secured a place in the playoffs. But still Joey Logano and his team hasn’t matched the performance of teammate Ryan Blaney. While talking about the star driver’s performance Penske technical director Travis Geisler admitted they have to increase their pace.
I think the No. 22, we’ve got to find a way to find some more speed there. They execute really well, they do all the little things right, we just have to find some more overall speed because you’re not going to get through the playoffs with one win going into it and not have a win somewhere (else).Travis Geisler said via RACER.
He admitted that the No:22 team can’t go further in the playoff with just one win and had to secure more wins for the playoff points. They are in the search for the extra speed to secure these much important wins.
When you get to that final round to get in the final four, if you only go in there with a handful of bonus points, it won’t happen. So, I think we’re definitely on the search for speed there.Travis Geisler added.
Travis Geisler gives his verdict on Austin Cindric’s poor form
While the veteran Penske drivers are having solid runs, despite a win and playoff berth secured their teammate Austin Cindric is having another tough year. He pointed out that the No:2 team isn’t left behind in development but when it comes to result, they are much behind.
They’re definitely not on an island when it comes to preparation, working together, getting ready for the race weekends. I think the overall end results are a little more spread than what we want, that’s for sure.Travis Geisler said.
He admitted that on race days Cindric’s team perform and struggle on the same tracks as his teammate. But the at the end of the day, the gap between the veteran is worse than expected due to poor form and many other reasons.
But when you see us and we’re strong, we all tend to be strong, and I think that’s important. But our weak tracks are weak for all our teams, and our strong tracks are strong for all our teams. We just have to close the gap between them.Travis Geisler added.
The team has to work on the cars of Joey Logano and Austin Cindric to make them better. This would also help Ryan Blaney and his team to get better. It would be interesting to see how the 2024 season would playout for them.
