Todd Gilliland appears to be composed and ready for being rushed into the Cup Series

Todd Gilliland and David Gilliland
Todd Gilliland currently competes full-time in the Cup Series driving the No.38 Ford Mustang for Front Row Motorsports. As he stepped into full-time Cup series racing, many speculated that he is too young and is being rushed into Cup Series.
Todd Gilliland seems to be following his father’s footsteps as David Gilliland was rushed into the Cup Series too, it appears to be running in the family. Despite his young age, Todd Gilliland managed to finish at 20th or less. Him racing in the Truck Series came as an aid for him in the Cup Racing making it less of a burden on him.
“Overall, I’ve been so surprised at how close the Cup cars drive,” Todd Gilliland on NASCAR cup series

Gilliland told CBS Sports that his father, David Gilliland has told him that he’s never going to expect until he does it and that winning at certain levels is not the same as winning a Cup Series race. He also told him that Cup Series racing is 100 times harder than anything he has ever done and that he’ll get better at it over time.
“You’re never gonna know what to expect until you actually do it. And I think that’s the biggest thing that he’s told me is just ‘You can win at all these different levels, but then when you get to the Cup Series, it’s gonna be 100 times harder than anything you’ve ever done, he thinks of it as ‘You just need to be able to get there and experience it, and it’ll make you a better driver over time,’” said Todd Gilliland.
He further added saying that Cup Series is just a little bit different from Truck Series and being able to have raced at most of these tracks before, he’s happy to say that he has that Truck Series experience coming into the Cup Series which his father didn’t have the opportunity to acquire that experience.
“I think it’s a little bit different – I think I have a little bit more experience just putting in four or five years in the Truck Series. Luckily, I’ve been to a lot of these racetracks, and hopefully, I have a little bit of the experience factor on him there,” added Todd Gilliland.
“I’ve been happy with the races I’ve been putting together,” Todd Gilliland his current NASCAR run

Todd Gilliland said he had no expectations for himself and that he was purely amazed at his grasp on everything, and he feels that his part of the expectations have been met so far and he’s really happy with the races he’s been putting so far.
“I really don’t think I had any (expectations) for myself. I was just so kind of amazed by the whole thing that I was just trying to get my grasp on everything, I think overall, expectations have been met on my part so far. I’ve been happy with the races I’ve been putting together,” said Todd Gilliland.
Todd Gilliland concluded by saying that he and his team are really content with what he has been accomplishing and he is making the most out of the NextGen car he is impressed with the races he’s run so far and hopes to continue that throughout the season.
“I feel like I’ve been super happy with what I’ve been doing. My team has been doing a really good job trying to get a grasp on this new NextGen car, obviously, we’re trying to work to get more speed, but as far as executing races I feel like we’ve done a really good job of that. Hopefully, we can continue that throughout the season,” concluded Todd Gilliland.
Given the fact that Todd Gilliland is still very young, he still has a long way to go and it can be seen with this weeks’ race at Richmond Raceway.
