Joe Gibbs Racing youngster Ty Gibbs has started a significant debate around too much reliance on technology in the Cup cars and how it’s ruining natural racing. One major issue he highlighted is the use of digital camera system instead of rear-view mirrors. The youngster is not a big fan of the change.
On his later appearance on Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s podcast, he asserted that these digital camera needs to taken out. He believes ones that happens some of the big names drivers in the current garage will get exposed and might even lose their seats.
Honestly, I think if you took the digital camera out of the car, I think there, it would be a mix of drivers that probably wouldn’t be in the Cup Series anymore. Honestly. I swear sometimes I’m like, man, if there was no digital cameras in here, like some of these guys definitely would not be in Cup.
Ty Gibbs told Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Further talking about how absurd the technology is, Ty Gibbs highlighted how the system is similar to the mirrors used by transit buses in LA. This shows how replacing mirrors have given drivers an added advantage that sometimes feels unfair.
Dude, I saw that we had the same mirror in a bus, like a transit bus. I was in the transit bus in LA and I was like, dude, I think that’s the same mirror I run in my Cup car. Yeah. That was a fun fact.

The 2022 second division champion believes If the sport get rid of the system and make the car races better in dirty air, the racing would become much more entertaining. The drivers wont able to make outrageous defensive moves by just spotting themselves using the mirrors and this would allow more passing.
I would 100% be for that. I think it would, I mean, obviously we’d want to have a car that races a little better in dirty air. But for the time being, I think if you took those out, I think it’d make the racing a little better because you can’t just sit there and look at your iPad and just go up and just screw somebody on their line.
Ty Gibbs asserted.
Ty Gibbs is going all in to win 2026 championship
With three more races left in the regular season, Ty Gibbs has found himself P2 in the points table and is among the front runners in the chase just behind teammate Denny Hamlin. Once the points rest ahead of the chase, he would have a better shot at winning the Bill France Cup.

I think the leader to the guy in 16th is like 100 points, isn’t it when the (Chase) starts? So, it puts you in a better spot for the title at the end of the year. We’ll just go from there…It’s week to week for me. But obviously want to win the title.
Ty Gibbs said about championship ambition.
In order for the racer to win JGR their first tile since 2019, they have to remain as consistent they have been so far this season and should win more races in the chase. It would be interesting see of either Gibbs or Hamlin can pull it off.
