Joe Gibbs Racing Cup regular Ty Gibbs was one of the few drivers to make Xfinity series outing ahead of the Coco Cola 600. He drove the No:20 TRD Camry for JGR itself and had a good race before making contact with JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier with just 25 laps left in the 200-lap race, the BetMGM 300.
On lap 75 coming out of turn four, Justin Allgaier in the No:7 Chevy was battling three cars at the times and was in the middle lane, with Ty Gibbs occupying the outside lane behind him. When he came out of the corner he tried to get front of the Toyota and take the lane, but he wasn’t clear enough to get the move to stick.

He made Ty Gibbs, who had nowhere to make contact with the wall and the No:20 to make contact. Allgaier spun and made contact with the wall and it caused major damages to his car. Justin Allgaier’s day ended in a P33 finish, the lowest of any JRM drivers while Gibbs, the 2022 Xfinity Series champion, was able to secure a P9 finish.
While Dale Earnhardt Jr. who was in the pit’s was disappointed with the results of his drivers, he did see one of his former drivers in the victory lane. 2020 Cup champion Chase Elliott who made his first start in the second tier this season won the race. He won the championship with Juniors’ team in 2014, which was his debut season.
Justin Allgaier admits the incident was his mistake
While talking about the incident in his interview after getting released from infield care canter, Allgaier pointed out that the contact was the result of miscommunication between him and his spotter Eddie. He revealed that he thought he had a little more room on the outside while making the move.
Miscommunication on my part, what I heard Eddie say and what I think Eddie said are probably a little bit different. You can hear everything he got on the free spurts. I just thought I had a little more room on the outside than I did.Justin Allgaier said.

The disappointing result might de-rail the positive momentum the JRM driver got after winning the Darlington race last race week. Before the win, the No:7 Chevy has been having a roller coaster run. Going into Portland next week he would be hoping to come back strong after a good rest.
