The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series regular season race at Martinsville was an impressive event for Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota. Veteran Denny Hamlin won the race, in the old-Hamlin fashion, dominating the race, leading 274 laps. His teammate and pole sitter Christopher Bell finished the race second while 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace finished P3.
While the TRD trio was having a strong day, two other Toyota drivers were having a battle among themselves. With more than 100 laps left in the race, Ty Gibbs was racing at P11, with Tyler Reddick a few car lengths behind him. On turn-3, the No:54 Toyota missed the corner a bit and left some space for Reddick.

The No:45 Camry took it without hesitation, with Austin Dillon in the No:3 car giving him a push. The cars made contact, and the youngster spun out. Gibbs felt that he was dumped by his TRD teammate and went on radio rant. He made some NFSW comments and hinted to his team that he might fight the 23XI Racing driver post-race.
You’d better keep me away from that little f***er [Reddick] after this race, too.
Ty Gibbs said on team radio.
The No:54 crew had the perfect response to the rant. They reminded Gibbs that it was a normal deal, and it was the push from Dillon that caused the incident.

Normal deal. He stuck his nose and then the 3 was just piling through him from behind. Nothing you can do about it.
No:54 crew told Ty Gibbs.
The incident left a bad taste in both of the driver’s mouth, and they talked it out after the race. Reddick went to the No:54 driver and confronted him about the incident. The duo then left without making any comments on it to the media.

Joe Gibbs was impressed with his grandson’s performance
Following the overall good performance from his drivers, Joe Gibbs Racing owner and NFL Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs shared his feelings. He revealed that Hamlin won the race in true veteran fashion and Bell was solid with his P2 finish.

He then talked about his grandson Ty Gibbs performance and highlighted how getting turned just ruined the race a bit for him. But despite all this, he is impressed with the whole team’s performance and asserted that it means a lot to him.
Ty was just outside of it and got turned. Big day for us. Just appreciate everyone here and what this means. This means a lot.
Joe Gibbs said.
The No:54 team so far has been below average in the 2025 season. He hasn’t secured a single top 10 finish yet, with five of his seven race outings resulting in finishes outside the top 20. Ironically his best finish was the P13 on Martinsville, showing luck might be slowly starting to support him. It will be interesting to see if the youngster can finally score his maiden Cup race win this season.
