Coming in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Charlotte Roval, 23XI Racing drivers’ Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace was expecting a nightmare. The duo faced exactly that coming in in a must-win situation in road course, which is now Shane van Gisbergen’s backyard. Both of them got eliminated from R-12.
Tyler Reddick had the chances to point his way in, as Joey Logano who was in the bubble finished P20 to progress. But the No:45 Camry driver failed to take advantage of his pole win, and getting caught in the traffic towards the end of the race resulted in him finishing P10, just 14 points below safety while Bubba Wallace finished P15.
Talking about the disappointment on his post-race interview with Frontstretch, Reddick pointed out that the reason for their elimination is the poor run at New Hampshire. They missed the mark as a company in opening race of the round, and they failed to adjust better with the new tires, killing the massive momentum they gained in R-16.
I don’t think so. I mean, when you look at the three races, we just certainly missed the mark as a company at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. That was a different tire that we haven’t had there before, and we just missed the mark in the first race and got behind on points.
Tyler Reddick told Frontstretch.

Tyler Reddick explains what went wrong for 23XI at Roval
In the same conversation, the TRD explained how his race went and what exactly went wring for them on Sunday. He pointed out that almost everything went the same as the planed, with the priority being on the win. But a couple of poor restarts was enough to unfold everything for him.

I don’t know if anything necessarily went wrong today. For how the race was playing out, we wanted to prioritize setting up to win the race. I think you could pick apart a couple of restarts and whatnot, but the race just kind of unfolded.
Tyler Reddick said.
He wasn’t able to match the pace of SVG, Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell who were fighting for the race win. In the final stage he failed to make the progress needed to be close to the front pack, and hoping for a caution at the end isn’t a good strategy.
Our long run wasn’t where it needed to be with the top guys, and in stage three, we just didn’t make the progress we needed to. We kind of went long, hoping for a caution there, and lost a lot of spots, but at the end of the day, we were trying to set ourselves up for a caution late.
Tyler Reddick asserted.
Further talking about the point, the 23XI Racing driver pointed out that if his team would have gone for maximizing on points instead of the chasing the win, the elimination wouldn’t have happened. But they can’t complain too much, as the race almost played the same as they planned.
Looking back on it, my crew chief Billy Scott mentioned we were only out by 14 points. Maybe we could have chased points a little bit harder today. A few things to look back on, but coming into this, we played it the way we should have.
Tyler Reddick added.
The comments from the two times Xfinity Series champion shows he knew they missed the mark with the planning at Roval, just like New Hampshire. Slightly better execution in the R-12 could’ve gotten both him and Bubba Wallace in the R-8, still in the fight for championship.
