At the Richmond weekend, all eyes were on Austin Dillon. The RCR driver had won the race last year, albeit in controversial circumstances that forced him out of the Playoffs. This year, however, Dillon did exactly what he was supposed to do to take an incredible redemption victory for his team. Following the race, the No. 3 driver was ecstatic.
In 2024, Austin Dillon won the Cup race at Richmond Raceway on the final lap, after two incidents on Turn 3 and Turn 4. His performance was slammed by critics who were unhappy with his on-track antics. Ahead of this year’s race, the RCR veteran was undeterred. Dillon succeeded in making his way to Victory Lane yet again, becoming the first repeat winner of the Cook Out 400 in 15 years.
The Chevrolet driver could not hold back his excitement on the team radio. He gave a rather hilarious remark on the radio after crossing the checkered flag, hinting that he was the master of Richmond Raceway. That’s not all, Dillon rounded up his celebrations with a big round of donuts on-track. The No. 3 car burnt all the rubber into the air, creating a pile of smoke for fans. Certainly, a deserved win and even better celebration.

Austin Dillon grateful for grandfather Richard Childress after Richmond win
Austin Dillon has long been supported by his grandfather Richard Childress. Childress has continued to have his grandson race for his team no matter the controversies on-track. This faith allowed Dillon to continue and once again bring the No. 3 to Victory Lane.

After the race, the 35-year-old asserted that every victory in NASCAR is incredibly special. Moreover, he was grateful for Richard Childress. Dillon pointed out that it would’ve been easy for his grandfather to find a new driver for his car. Yet, Richard Childress continued to believe in him and the result is now there for everyone to see.
It’s just so special. Every one of these (wins) means so much to me. My grandfather (Richard Childress) … for all that he’s put up in believing in me; there’s been a lot of ups and downs. It would have been easy for him to change the driver in this 3 car, but today it feels really darn good.
Austin Dillon said, as quoted by Reuters
What makes the race even more special is that Austin Dillon was actually racing with a broken rib. Yet, the RCR driver managed to not only stay in the fight up front but even defeat his rivals courtesy of a clever race strategy by the pit wall.
Certainly, Austin Dillon has now silenced all critics once and for all. The 35-year-old has proved that Richmond Raceway is his track and no driver can even come close. He has finally removed the controversies from last year and has secured his spot in the Playoffs. Now, the real challenge is about to begin for Dillon and RCR.
