It is no surprise that Kyle Busch has arguably the biggest trophy collection amongst current NASCAR drivers. He has won 232 NASCAR national series wins in total. Only Richard Petty has ever crossed the 200 mark other than Busch.

Kyle Busch pinpoints change in drafting with NextGen cars

NASCAR introduced the NextGen cars in 2022 at the Daytona 500. The sport hoped to improve on-track racing with the new machines while reducing the focus on horsepower. Though, the cars have divided opinions. Moreover, even drivers have expressed their views over the change in the way they race due to the NextGen cars.

Drafting is a key aspect of NASCAR. Drivers tuck right behind the car in front, this allows them to race in free air, while the car ahead faces resistance. As such, while drafting, drivers are able to go quicker and then make a move on the car ahead. However, according to Kyle Busch, the way of drafting has changed substantially with the new cars.

Instead of drafting from ahead, now drivers gain more from the cars behind. Kyle Busch revealed that the push comes from whatever is happening behind his car, and this allows him to go further, stark difference from the past.

The draft is a big deal, and honestly the energy in the draft now is not necessarily coming from ahead of you; it’s more so coming from behind you. Two, three, four, five cars behind you is where that energy really develops, and you get pushed forward from that energy. So, the draft is different than what it used to be. Years ago, you would suck up to the guy in front of you and slingshot past him and make him move that way. Now, you’re really relying on everything happening behind you and building from behind.

Kyle Busch said, as reported by Speedway Digest.

Certainly, NASCAR is an ever-evolving sport. The change in drafting might seem small at first glance. However, it can really make a difference in the way drivers now race. Veterans like Busch who have raced in the sport for decades, must’ve found it tricker to adapt to the new way to draft compared to the newcomers in the field. Nevertheless, as long as the sport provides exciting battles on-track, fans would be happy to tune-in every race weekend.
