The NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Martinsville saw a dramatic finish to the race and has established the championship-4 line up for the 2024 season. Ryan Blaney secured a spot in the finale alongside Joey Logano and Tyler Reddick with his win, while William Byron secured the last spot after Christopher Bell DQ.

Joe Gibbs Racing star Christopher Bell was disqualified from the race for the wall ride on the last lap, the move that is banned by NASCAR over safety concerns. This helps William Byron to inherit the spot, which he lost on tie breaker with Bell as they had the same points after the race. Following the event many shared opinions that the No:20 team deserves the finale spot, and it shouldn’t be taken away because of the mistake.

William Byron has called BS on the claims when asked in the post-race interview by NBC if “Bell deserved the spot.” He highlighted that how the rule about wall rides it pretty black and white and asserted that it was illegal move that deserved a penalty. The No:24 Chevy driver doesn’t see any arguments against the claim.

Yeah, there’s a rule against it. We all sat in meetings and talked about whether there should be a rule against it. Front tires were off the ground coming off four there against the fence. It happened in the past and it was fair game, but now the rule is against it, so I don’t see how you can call it any different.

William Byron told NBC Sports.

William Byron is excited for Phoenix championship race

The Hendrick Motorsports driver, though he has secured his spot in the finale, isn’t really happy about the performance. He understands he can perform much better in the race and the day didn’t go as planned for them. But he is excited about having shot for the title in the finale.

I’ll think about this one here at Martinsville with my team. We had a lot of adversity through the second half of the race there. Yeah, I mean, we know what the rules are, right? So, it is what it is. I wouldn’t say I’m happy, but I’m excited to race for a championship, that’s for sure.

William Byron said.

The HMS driver will be help from the whole team in the finale to succeed and secure the championship. It will be interesting to see how the No:24 car will perform in the finale against Tyler Reddick, Joey Lognao and Ryan Blaney.
