NBA 2020-21 Season: Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in Red Hot-Form as Brooklyn Nets crush Golden State Warriors 99-125

Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant scored 22 points, 3 steals, 3 assists and 5 rebounds against the Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors took on the Brooklyn Nets to start off the 2020-21 season. With Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant re-uniting on the court, but for the different franchises, the stakes could not have been higher to start off the 2020-21 season. Both had been in exceptional form coming into this contest. While Durant had his side-kick Kyrie Irving by his side, Stephen Curry was without his splash-brother Klay Thompson.

On one hand fanatics were excited to see Durant and Irving combining when the stakes are high. On the contrary it was about the young stars playing the supporting role to Stephen Curry in the Goden State Warriors. Also, this was going to be James Wiseman’s first appearance for the Warriors. With Draymond Green being absent from this contest, the Warriors surely did make themselves realise that.

Golden State Warriors vs Brooklyn Nets – As it Happened

1st quarter-

As the game started, the Warriors were it a little slow to start off with their pace. But Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant seemed to have started in the 3rd gear itself. Durant and Irving led the Nets to an offensive feast, which helped them lead the 1st quarter 40-25.

2nd quarter-

With Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant both being rested in this quarter. Their respective benches were given more game-time in this quarter. Caris Levert came off the Nets bench to prove his worth, he led the Nets on both ends of the court to ensure their points margin remains intact with Curry sitting out this quarter in the early minutes. But his return clearly marked as a clear confidence booster to the Dubs. Even Kyrie Irving returned on the court, knowing the danger Curry possess. Going into the half time the Nets had given a good rest to both their marquee players and had a comforting lead of 45-63, courtesy to Irving’s 24 points.

3rd quarter-

While Wiseman, Wiggins and Kelly Oubre Jr all took their time to settle into the game offensively. Curry seemed like the only person to be able to do the scoring for the Dubs. But Warriors’ were just getting warmed up for the second half of the game. There is no hesitation in saying that the Nets were combining way better than the Dubs, who were having a field goal and 3-point % less than 30. For the Nets Spencer Dinwiddie was also handful in this quarter. A summary of all 3-quarters could be simply suggested by saying that the Nets were all over the Warriors in al the quarters. Moreover, the presence of Durant and Irving ensured that. Going into the last quarter, Nets led even more comfortably 71-99.

4th quarter-

In the last quarter, the only ray of hope for the Warriors was to go all-out. But with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving with 22 and 26 points, one simple cannot do that. For the Warriors, by the end of the 3rd quarter Curry had scored 20, whereas Andrew Wiggins had scored 13. The rest of the bench as well as the starters had a rough day offensively.  However, it all seemed too much for the Warriors to cove, especially after LeVert also started with his decent contribution for the Nets. At the end a rigorous effort by Stephen Curry was not at all enough. With James Wiseman and Andrew Wiggins adding to the Warriors’ scoring strength by the time the match was already done with as the Brooklyn Nets beat the Golden State Warriors comprehensively on the opening day 99-125.
