Charles Barkley, Moses Malone and Andre Drummond

Andre Drummond, the rebounding monster is lately drawing legendary comparisons with greats like Charles Barkley, Moses Malone and Dennis Rodman. The Detroit Pistons drafted Andre Drummond as the 9th pick overall in the first round of the 2012 National Basketball Association’s Draft. Since then he has shifted boards for more three teams: Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers.

Currently, Andre Drummond plays alongside All-Star center Joel Embiid at the Philadelphia 76ers. Recently the Philadelphia 76ers hosted the Ja Morant led Memphis Grizzlies while having Joel Embiid at rest as they don’t want him to face or suffer any injury during his MVP campaign. Joel Embiid being out gave more responsibility and minutes to Andre Drummond something he joined the Philadelphia 76ers for.

Andre Drummond playing for 43 minutes in the overtime victory over Memphis Grizzlies recorded 5 assists, 16 points and 23 rebounds. A double-double stat line with 20 plus rebounds. This season it was his fourth 20-rebound game and from the last 40 seasons there have been only two players to have more than four 20 plus rebound games in a season and those are Moses Malone and Charles Barkley. The season so far is going well for the 76ers and Andre Drummond as they are currently ranked as the third seed in the eastern conference with the record of 31 wins and 19 losses at .620.

Is Andre Drummond the best active rebounder?

Drummond has always been great at getting the ball off from the glass on both ends. Spending almost a decade in the league, Drummond has recorded 9200 plus rebounds but has even drawn legendary comparison with Dennis Rodman early in his career. The only reason he is held back and not trusted enough by many teams is the influence of his where the numbers he gets for the team don’t really matter. As in the modern era being an offensive threat is equally important while being good at support for which coaches have to show trust in Drummond with the ball.

Andre Drummond is surely one of the best active rebounders in the league but veterans like Dwight Howard and LeBron James who are also good rebounders stay in front. While Andre Drummond is ranked second all-time for the most games with 20 plus rebounds at 88 games after Dennis Rodman who had 158 of those in his career. Taking such a big record down won’t be that easy for Drummond as he is no more a primary starter for the team but someone who comes off the bench and makes the difference needed.
