Brawl between North Dakota State and Oral Roberts
North Dakota State and Oral Roberts players went at it in brawl after their match in the process of shaking hands, which isn’t exactly what they seemed to be doing. The players and coaches from both the teams seemed very unenthusiastic about the fact that they had to shake hands after one team’s dominant victory over the other with a player from the winning team dunking at the very end moment in the match. The cause of the brawl is said to be caused by an Oral Roberts’ coach yelling at the North Dakota players.
With what is known to be as a common sighting in college basketball events, the fights occurring between different players is almost a daily affair, but what happened in the Summit League matchup between NDSU and Oral Roberts was kind of uncanny as it was a brawl in which even the Coaches were involved, who are generally the ones breaking up the fights between the players.
No matter what the reason may be for brawl to occur, it is an unfortunate event and must be avoided in any sport as it violence doesn’t play any role in making a sport or anyone involving it great. Let us now take a closer look at what happened at the ending moments in the match, what was the spark that lit a fire of the massive brawl and what were its implications on both the teams.
North Dakota State and Oral Roberts teams clash in a fight after the match ended
The match between both the teams ended in a strange manner with the players and coaches from both the teams fighting, seemingly without any case, after NDSU defeated Oral Roberts by an 18-point margin and the winning team closing the game with a massive dunk after stealing the ball at the very end moment.
The NDSU team which was already leading by a huge margin of 16 points at the closing moments of the match managed to steal the ball from an Oral Roberts’ player and Maleeck Harden-Hayes dunked it and hyped up the entire atmosphere which wasn’t taken very well by the losing side. After the whistle was blown, both teams proceeded to go for a handshake which is something that occurs on a positive not. But that wasn’t the very case here, let us take a look.

Both the teams looked very unenthusiastic about the fact that they had to shake hands and therefore the process happened without a smile on anyone’s face. A coach from the Oral Roberts team, Paul Mills proceeded to argue with a few of the NDSU players and that was enough to set it off between both of the teams.
It seemed as is if no punches were thrown by anyone in the entire brawl but there was a huge amount of violent shoving, which resulted in the Roberts’ player Elijah Lufile having to be held back by the team multiple times.
Roberts’ coach Paul Mills in his statement made after the match said, “I am very saddened about what transpired at the conclusion of our game tonight v NDSU. ORU nor NDSU want to be represented in a negative light. [North Dakota State coach] Dave Richman & I have spoken & I have the utmost respect for the Bison program. Congratulations to the Bison on a dominant performance.”
Despite a fierce performance by both the teams and the NDSU taking a dominant victory over the Oral Roberts, both the teams trail behind South Dakota in the Summit League rankings, which is where the real battle goes down.
