With the New York City vaccine mandate still having no change despite the plea made by many famous personnel to the mayor, Kyrie Irving seems to be the player who has suffered the most. The Brooklyn Nets locked horns against their city rivals, New York Knicks, fans could witness Irving been present, not with the team but on the purchased courtside seats.

However, it did not take the Brooklyn Nets long as they decided to let their marquee player, Kyrie Irving into the locker room in a home game after Kevin Durant dropped a skillful display of 53-points to ensure a hard-fought victory against the depleted New York Knicks side, who are still trying hard to book a pay-in tournament berth.

While Irving is permitted to attend home games now that the city’s indoor vaccine mandate was dropped and he attended his first home game of the season. The private sector mandates still bars him from playing. And the league slapped the in-form Brooklyn Nets with a fine for “violating local New York City law and league health and safety protocols” in letting him come from his courtside seat into the locker room.

That being said, Kevin Durant spent a good chunk of his postgame interview calling on New York City Mayor Eric Adams to change the mandate, calling it “ridiculous” that unvaccinated people could be in the arena but not play in it. Coach Steve Nash acknowledged during his postgame availability that Irving had been in the locker room at halftime.

“The last two years have been a difficult and painful time for New Yorkers, as well as a very confusing time with the changing landscape of the rules and mandates,” Durant said. “I do appreciate the task the Mayor has in front of him with all the city has been through. My frustration with the situation doesn’t change the fact that I will always be committed to helping the communities and cities I live in, and play in.”
