“Don’t look at me, I need you to kill” Jayson Tatum reveals his unique encounter with Kevin Durant during Tokyo Olympics
Jayson Tatum and Kevin Durant
Boston Celtics’ marquee Jayson Tatum was merely 15-years-old when he desired to play just like Kevin Durant. When the former had entered the league, KD had already achieved everything, a championship title, an MVP accolade, an NBA Finals MVP. So, when Tatum had the chance to join forces under the leadership of Durant, he surely knew how to live up to the hype during the Tokyo Olympics.
Having played against Kevin Durant in 2017, Jayson Tatum went onto reveal interesting insights about his interaction with the Brooklyn Nets marquee on The Draymond Green Show. Safe to say, it did seem like Tatum not only won a gold medal for Team USA in Tokyo, but even made some memories.
What was opinionated by Jayson Tatum?
Tatum told Draymond, “I remember specifically coming down on the wing. Somebody kicked me the ball. And on the Celtics, I would have shot it. I just remembered K was to the right of me, and I passed it to him. And I remember he got mad at me.
“He was like, ‘Yo, don’t look for me. Be yourself. I need you to kill.’ And that was the first time I was like, ‘No, he wants me to hoop, too.'”
Indeed, it would’ve been a strange experience for Jayson Tatum to play alongside Kevin Durant, after Nets and Celtics locked horns in the playoffs, three months earlier. So, when he had his first chance of representing his country, under the leadership of his idol, Tatum surely went onto claim that he has made some life-long memories at Tokyo Olympics. Something which Draymond Green will be fully aware off.
“Durant is somebody I looked up to growing up,” Tatum said. “And getting to have that matchup with him during the playoffs, and then being his teammate and having conversations with him overseas, it’s something that I will always remember.”
Given the form of Celtics and Nets, it could very well be possible that we might witness the clash of KD and Tatum once again in the playoffs. If that is the case, Durant has had Tatum’s number as the former has won all of the four encounters in the playoffs against Boston.
