It was a special night not only at Staples Center but for basketball fans all over the world as Klay Thompson made his return into the league after 941 days. With his teammates obviously being charged, Draymond Green could not make a valid contribution alongside his good friend as he struggled with a calf injury. Fans saw him walking off to the side-lines for good, only after the tip off.

Now, when the Warriors stamped their authority past Cavaliers, and are destined to make a valid run for the championship in the 2021-22 season, Green got honest upon his calf injury. Moreover, Draymond Green went onto explain why he made the decision to be on the floor during Klay Thompson’s return for the Warriors.

I don’t think my calf injury is a big issue, but it was important for me to be out there for Klay’s first game back,” Green told The Undefeated“I’ve been waiting on this moment for almost three years. I wanted to feel the energy, but more importantly, if he was going to walk out there and be there for this moment, I was going to do it.”

The only positive being, that Green is not dealing with anything serious. Given that the marquee defender has the responsibility to guide the entire defensive unit and plays for the Dubs, his presence is vital at all costs. Having played 34 of the 39 possible games for the Warriors, Green surely has given his all and is rightly on the verge of being named an All-Star yet another time.

On the other hand, now with Klay Thompson back, it will be interesting to see how Warriors use him, especially when the likes of Jordan Poole and Gary Payton II have been in glorious form.
