“He can’t be trusted”- Stephen A. Smith urges the Nets winning because of ‘unvaccinated’ Kyrie Irving would send a wrong message

Stephen A. Smith is a big fan of Kyrie Irving's skills but certainly not of his attitude. Smith has been vocal about it in the past and this time he thinks that if Nets win the championship, Kyrie should not be the one to credit.

Kyrie Irving made his comeback to the NBA earlier this month, and since then he has not looked like someone who hasn’t played in seven months. ESPN Analyst Stephen A. Smith would agree to it as he is a big fan of Kyrie’s on-court skills. But, Smith has been very vocal that he does not like Kyrie’s attitude and never has.

The Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night beat the Washington Wizards 119-118 on road to continue their bumpy ride of late. They have only managed to win five of their last 12 games. With Kevin Durant out for a significant time and Kyrie available only for road games, it is only going to get tougher for the Nets seeing their recent form.

Stephen A. Smith points out the problems with Kyrie Irving

Stephen A. Smith recently on his show called out Kyrie for his attitude of ‘taking liberties’ and not being there for his teammates. Smith quoted – “He [Kyrie] is such a showstopper, he is so spectacular that if you wanted to pay him $50 million a year, I don’t care, he deserves it. But I would never sign him to a long-term deal. He can’t be trusted. I would sign him one year at a time for max dollars. He has shown me that when the money comes in, he will take the liberty to take off when he wants to take off.”

Smith went so far as to say that it would send a wrong message if the Nets were to win a championship because of Kyrie Irving. Smith said that it was Kyrie who put the Nets team together or everyone would have gone to the Knicks. He further added – “My point is that this organization capitulated to the wishes of Kyrie Irving because Kevin Durant capitulated to the wishes of Kyrie Irving… I think it would be a disaster and it would send the wrong message if the Brooklyn Nets were to win the chip because of that man [Kyrie].”

It is hard to disagree with Smith here as there is a fair case that the Nets can only win with Kyrie. But it would be unfair to say that the Nets won because of Kyrie as he has abandoned his teammates before, even though it was due to very understandable reasons.
