Steve Kerr and Stephen Curry

Coach Steve Kerr believes that Stephen Curry should be more of a traditional type of point guard for them, he gave this statement after the Warriors comfortably beat the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday and ended their two-game losing streak. Their quick win after the all-star week might help them to regain the momentum that they lost previously.

In this game, Stephen Curry played more like a typical point guard and showed some exceptional supporting skills for his team. Curry mostly stays in the headlines for his shooting and high-scoring games but this time it was different as he made 14 assists which are also his career-high.

We all know that Steph is a good passer but he mostly focuses on his offensive gameplay, whereas Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala play the role of moving the ball, but in their absence, it seems that Curry has decided to play their role for the Warriors which even their Head coach Steve Kerr noticed and commented (via 95.7 The Game):

“In the absence of Draymond and Andre, Steph understands he’s gotta be a more traditional point guard than normal because those two guys have the ball in their hands so often for us, Steph can play off the ball. When they’re absent, Steph needs to take control of the game and manage it and operate it. I thought he did a great job of that last night.”

Steve appreciated how 2xMVP took the control of the game as the Warriors’ star playmakers were absent. Curry was unstoppable against the Blazers as they were unable to figure out how to defend the game against the two-time NBA champ.

“Steph picked his spots wisely and did a good job of just controlling the whole game but his passing was brilliant. They were trapping him everywhere and he was giving out the ball cleanly and created 4-3 advantages all over the floor,” added Steve Kerr

Moreover, Coach Kerr wants Curry to play more traditionally until their playmakers come back to the campaign. It will be interesting to watch what role Stephen Curry will play to make the results in their favor against Dallas on Sunday.
