“He hasn’t looked himself consistently” Kendrick Perkins questions Warriors title hopes after analyzing Klay Thompson’s inconsistent contributions
Klay Thompson and Kendrick Perkins
Klay Thompson has been one of the best among his team’s strongest players since he was drafted by them. The Golden State Warriors’ offense mainly revolves around their play-making ability and shooting where Thompson and fellow teammate Stephen Curry contribute. But lately, the team has not been able to win consistently after Steph’s injury or even the All-Star Weekend for that matter.
Stephen Curry will continue in rehab for the remainder of the regular season after succumbing to an ankle sprain during the Warriors vs Boston Celtics game on March 16th, 2022. The Warriors had 4 wins and 6 losses in the 10 games they played without their number one player. Klay Thompson has been better than most have expected him to be after his injury despite being inconsistent.
Klay Thompson leads the Warriors in a win over the Lakers
Despite having a rough stretch of games ever since All-Star Weekend, the Warriors managed to gather enough wins to keep in playoff contention. Last night, the Warriors were successful in taking advantage of a weak Los Angeles Lakers roster winning 128-112. The Dubs shot 52.6% from the field, 50% from three-point range, and 100% from the foul line including 10 steals and 5 blocks.
Klay Thompson led the Warriors finishing with 33 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists while shooting 12-22 from the field. Thompson had two more 30 point performances in the last five games against the teams Atlanta Hawks and Utah Jazz. Since his return, he is averaging 19.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game on 42.3% shooting. Even though his numbers are not the same, they are extremely close to his averages prior to the injury. He has also been averaging 37.9% from three this season which is well above average.
Klay Thompson cannot help the Warriors through the playoffs says Kendrick Perkins
Kendrick Perkins spoke on ESPN about the adjustments the Warriors will have to make as they play in the post-season. He said, “They are dangerous enough to make it to the semi-finals, but when I look at the Western Conference and look at the Memphis Grizzlies and Phoenix Suns, I just can’t put the Warriors over them. I understand Klay Thompson shined on the Lakers but who hasn’t shined on the Lakers. He hasn’t looked like himself consistently.”
Perk also highlighted ways the Warriors might have to work in order to get past the top seeds in the Western Conference. He said, “When I look at their lack of depth on the inside that is concerning to me. Because in the West, especially when you have to go against those athletic guards, you have to have somebody to match up with a guy like Deandre Ayton. I know Draymond Green is a specialist but you still need the size and length to anchor your defense.”
