“I don’t bring my kids to games anymore because I keep getting called names”: Russell Westbrook gets vulnerable with the media after the loss against Spurs
Russell Westbrook with his family
Russell Westbrook has been the most criticized player so far the season and now the criticism has even reached his family. As recently, his wife Nina Westbrook revealed how fans are wishing death threats to them. The criticism was all good and okay for Russell Westbrook personally all the years he has been in the league. Since even he welcomes the critics when it’s about him not making and taking the shots. But now just letting it slide out and ignoring is getting difficult as the fans have dragged the personal life of Russell Westbrook in their criticism.
Recently, the San Antonio Spurs hosted the Los Angeles Lakers at AT&T Center. After a closely contested and head-to-head match-up between the two. The San Antonio Spurs outshined the LeBron James less Los Angeles Lakers. As the final box score stands at 117-110. The supporting cast with no LeBron James’ MVP calibre performance did a good job but falling short is placed on the losing end. Currently, the Los Angeles Lakers are ranked as the ninth seed in the western conference with the record of 28 wins and 36 losses at .438 as they have only won two of their last ten match-ups.
In the game Russell Westbrook got himself a double-double but was also called out “Westbrick” as an exchange of his with the fans sitting courtside stands viral on the internet. In the post-game even Russell gave away a proper explanation when questioned about the criticism he is getting so far the season and how does that affect his family and especially the three beautiful kids of his.

Russell Westbrook on his family and critics
Russell Westbrook answering the reporters regarding the criticism and how his family deals with it quoted: “Once it starts to affect my family and my wife… Even today, my mom said something about it today. It affects them even going to games. I don’t even want to bring my kids to the game because I don’t want them to hear people calling their dad nicknames and all these names for no reason, because he’s playing the game that he loves. It’s gotten so bad where my family don’t even want to go to home games, to any game because of, not just the media across the globe using platforms to constantly shame me. It’s just super unfortunate, super upsetting to me and I’m at a point where I’m going to continue to address it. It’s just unfortunate.”
Russell Westbrook’s hate for getting called as “Westbrick” is very understandable as it is more about his family. Since his son Noah loves his last name as he always refers to himself with it. The fans have to stop dragging the family of such players in the conversation as at the end of the day it is a game of skill and the innocent members have nothing to do about it. Brodie also mentioned that from now onwards he won’t be entertaining getting called “Westbrick” and will make sure he addresses everyone and anyone who does that.
