A little under a month is left in the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers to keep their playoffs chances alive. They are currently coming off two back-to-back losses with their most recent one coming from the Toronto Raptors. As we all know, they have not been up to par this season and it seems like they are continuing to decline over time. The only good thing coming out of the Lakers team might be LeBron James.
As rough as the going might be for the team, they have always been hopeful about winning their future games despite the horrible consecutive losses they face so often. As the point guard, Russell Westbrook would put it, “Don’t quit” has been a go-to excuse to suppress the negativity for the team. But that does not avoid the fact that the Lakers need to solve a lot of problems before heading into the play-in tournament.
LA Lakers get handed over another loss against the Toronto Raptors
The Los Angeles Lakers had to face another unfortunate loss as the Toronto Raptors steal a win to extend their winning streak of four games. LeBron James had played the starting center role as the Lakers did not have Dwight Howard due to back tightness. Even though James has not played many games as a center, he has the ability to be extremely aggressive within the paint. But the shortage of other backup big men brought the Lakers’ offense in the paint to a low scoring of only 36 points in the post.
The Lakers shot 39.1% from the field, 31% from the three-point range, and made 22 of their 29 attempts from the free-throw line which is surprisingly good for a team that lacks the skill to a certain degree. LeBron James had a usual night scoring 30 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists shooting 11 of 19. Talen Horton-Tucker scored a good 20 points along with 5 rebounds and assists. Russell Westbrook’s inconsistent productivity continues as he ended with 14 points on 4 of 10 shooting.
Russell Westbrook does not know the cause of the LA Lakers’ slow starts
The Lakers had a very slow start to the game with LeBron putting in the first points after being down almost four minutes. The same had happened when the team went up against the Phoenix Suns in a 29-point blowout. In response to address the issue, Westbrook said, “I’m not sure, I don’t have an answer for you.”
The team has only 14 games left to conclude the season and they are under three games from being kicked out of the play-in tournament. The Lakers are set to meet the Raptors on March 19, 2022, at the Scotiabank Arena, Toronto. They do have a couple of easier matchups following this game which are must-wins.
