“If it doesn’t work out, Russell Westbrook will be the scapegoat” Skip Bayless takes wild shot at LeBron James for wanting an ‘Elite Squad’
Russell Westbrook, Lebron James and Skip Bayless
LeBron James performance might have been good for the last few games, but the team is consistently falling behind in the league. Russell Westbrook on the other hand has not been so good with his contribution so far. This season is getting more and more difficult for the LA Lakers as they fall on the sixth position on the Western Conference standings.
La Lakers being a franchise with high expectations as they have seventeen titles to their name, are always on the media’s spotlight that thrusts them in the hole of constant pressure. LeBron James being one of the greatest NBA players of all time has to carry this burden as for now, he stands as the face of the Lakers.
According to the reports, Lakers are looking forward to make changes in the team before the trading deadlines. And it was not late when the rumours of the Lakers being interested in the Ben Simmons and Jerami Grant trade were flashing around.
Following this the NBA analyst Skip Bayless discussed the rumours of the Lakers having discussions on trading Russell Westbrook and Shannon Sharpe, again pinning LeBron James for the blame.

Skip Byless calls Russell Westbrook the “scapegoat”
“I’m going a 100% LeBron, because you know and I know the buck stops there, with No. 6,” Skip Bayless said. “He should have 100% say and 100% blame over this. You know and I know, if he had said no, it’s not going to happen.
“Nobody can say no to [LeBron] in this franchise because he does run it, because he earned the right to run it… I said this was gonna be a disaster. Now, I sit back and say, I’m sure he hasn’t given up on it yet, because we’ve still got a long ways to go. But we see the handwriting and the reports that they’re having internal discussions about, ‘How can we get out from under this?’ … I just think it’s virtually impossible.”
No matter what, LeBron James is not the only team member to have the entire blame alone. His team members Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis are also to be blamed for as they are the ones with low stats this season. Although, this responsibility is not on the players, rather it’s with the management of the LA Lakers.
Further with his opinion Skip didn’t hesitate to call Westbrook as some sort of scapegoat for LeBron James.
“I said this was gonna be a disaster, Bayless continued. “Now, I sit back and say, I’m sure he hasn’t given up on it yet, because we’ve still got a long ways to go. But we see the handwriting and the reports that they’re having internal discussions about, ‘How can we get out from under this?’ … I just think it’s virtually impossible.”
“I told you from the start, I believe LeBron looked at this two ways, it’s the two-edged sword. He said, ‘If I can pull this off with Russ’ — and maybe he still believes he can — he’s saying, ‘If I can pull this off, I’ll show the whole NBA world I did something nobody thought I could do.’ If it doesn’t work out, Russ is obviously a lightning rod for criticism. … The GOAT always needs a scapegoat. Russ can be the ultimate scapegoat. If this thing goes south you just say it’s his fault and everybody will agree.”
The fact is not hidden that Russell’s performance this season is not what the fans were promised. His constant downfall is leading the team to be dragging in the conference standings. And it won’t be unnoticed by the fans to target him for the Lakers failure after the season.
