“If you don’t hear it from me, don’t go with it”- Russell Westbrook gives out Jornlism Lesson after being Probed about Kawhi Leonard
Russell Westbrook and the media’s relationship is no hidden truth; everyone knows that they like to tick each other off. It is not rocket science that reporters like to emphasize a particular aspect of a player’s performance and signify that intensively. But it is also them that convey to the world the goodness of the players.
But seems like Russell Westbrook doesn’t like the way the media has portrayed him to be. In every conference he either questions their sources or sarcastic dismisses them but this time he took it upon himself to give out lessons on Journalism.
Russell Westbrook- “Sources will get you in trouble.”
Russell Westbrook’s trade to the LA Lakers was one of the most covered topics at the beginning of this season. The reaction of the Lakers Nation was overwhelming but Russell’s performance subdued it.
Westbrook is great with the ball and is an asset for a team but with the Lakers, he still is yet to reach his full potential. Last season he averaged 22.2 points per game and this season it has dropped to 20.7. The numbers may seem to be close but for a player like Russell Westbrook and the performance he has given so far in the league, this is just so not his standard.
Given LA Lakers Performance this just gave the media the scope to ask just one question, “When are you gonna win like LA Lakers?” The Lakers blasting victory against the Sacramento Kings by 117-92 in their previous match was enough to put a stoppage to all those accusations slandering their roster. But rumors just shoot up from anything and everything.
Recently in an interview, Bill Oram, a reporter from The Atlantic asked Russell Westbrook about his alleged phone with LA Clippers Kawhi Leonard circling around Russell’s desire to play alongside Kawhi.
Russell straightway denied it and asked the journalist to rectify his mistake of believing everything that’s been said. He said, “Who is your source? You asked me a question based on a story that someone else had written, but you don’t know where they got it from, or you don’t know if it’s true. I don’t let anybody speak for me. If you don’t hear it from me, don’t go with, ‘the source said.’ Sources will get you in trouble.”
Well, it was quite a lesson for the reporter. The LA Lakers will compete against the LA Clippers today at the Staple Centre. The fans can only hope that the Lakers’ roster continues to uphold their performance from the previous game but the season is in its 3rd month, and the Lakers can’t just put up bad performances now.
