“It’s not just injuries, what happened to AD?” Nick Wright puts Anthony Davis on blast following Lakers’ seventh straight upset

“It’s not just injuries, what happened to AD?” Nick Wright puts Anthony Davis on blast following Lakers’ seventh straight upset

The LA Lakers had succumbed to yet another loss after being led by Anthony Davis this time. The Phonix Suns have complete dominance over the star-studded team after winning 121-110. The lack of proper or no effort put into leadership played a major role during this loss. It was not entirely because they played badly in fact they had a very decent game. But this might be a case of total reliability over one person.

LeBron James was sidelined during the game after facing soreness in his ankles following the matchup against Denver. Anthony Davis barely had any productivity during the game finishing with 21 points and 13 rebounds. The Lakers have lost seven games in a row and Davis had this to say on their free fall, “I think the biggest thing that I think about personally is what we could have been, had we stayed healthy all year.”

Anthony Davis joined the Lakers during the 2019 off-season in pursuit of a ring. That year, the Lakers were all healthy and managed to steal the top spot in the Western Conference. Ultimately, they went on to win a title-winning against the Miami Heat in game 6 of the finals. The following witnessed a breakout of injuries involving AD himself and LeBron James. They were swept in the first round of the 2020 playoffs, ironically by the same team that put them out of contention this year, the Suns.

Out of the 78 games that the Lakers have starred in, Davis only featured in 40 of those. He faced a sprained ankle earlier in February and made his return to the squad on Sunday against the Nuggets. Davis has been constantly shifted in and out of rotation since the commencement of the season due to various minute injuries to the knee and ankle.

Analyst Nick Wright was very suspicious of what might have caused the tragedy of a season the Lakers had. He said, “It is just an absolute, unacceptable, unforgivable screw-up of the year.” Wright brought up facts on how the Lakers were the first team to fall out of the Vegas Odds for title contention which until now every team has consistently made the playoffs. The Lakers ranked second as favorites to win the title trailing behind the Brooklyn Nets.

“I wanna talk about Anthony Davis. I hoped maybe Anthony Davis could throw them on his back. That player doesn’t exist anymore. AD has 0 games with 35+ points. It’s not just injury. He played 40 games. What’s happened to AD,” said Wright. The Lakers with Davis were 17-20 before his injury which may hint at a possible decline in his game. He averaged 23.2 points on 53.2% shooting from the field as well as 9.8 rebounds and 3 assists which is a slight drop from his performance prior to getting injured. The Lakers have no hope this season but will have to try once again next year with a potential new roster.
