Jordan Poole’s contract and salary breakdown

One of the primary scorers of the Golden State Warriors, Jordan Poole, has shown his potential in his early years. Playing for the Michigan Wolverines, Poole was an exceptional scorer, as he had various scouts notice him during the NCAA tournament. Jordan was drafted by the Warriors in 2019. A new addition to the Warriors, he was expected to be a decent backup shooter. Though Poole’s development over the years made him one of the most skilful scorers of the league.

Jordan spent his first two years in the league trying to level up, as the Warriors played without their stars. Following his sophomore year, Poole had improved greatly and became the best scorer on the team behind Stephen Curry. He was the key player going into the 2022 postseason. Though till then, Jordan was still on his rookie contract. The Dubs would go on to win the championship, after which Poole waited for a contract extension.

Previous Contracts and Salaries

When Poole signed with the Warriors back in 2019, his rookie contract was worth $10 million. For a 28th pick, it was a good enough contract, considering Poole to take his time settling in the league. Though no one expected Jordan to improve that immensely. Poole was one of the last picks of the first round. Now four years later, he’s better than most of the players selected before him.

Poole also has incentives within his new contract. His guaranteed salary in the course of the next four years is $123 million. Though with the addition of incentives, it can balloon up to $140 million. His incentives include his availability during the regular season and the team’s playoff success.

Jordan will earn an extra $250,000 if he plays at least 65 games during the regular season. He’ll earn another $250,000 if the team wins 52 regular season games with Jordan participating in at least 65. Though it doesn’t end there. Poole will earn the same amount each time the Warriors advance to the next round in the postseason, starting from the first round itself, all contingent on him playing minutes in at least 65 regular season games. This would add up to $1.25 million to his bank each season under his contract.

Still, there are more incentives lined up for Poole. Jordan would earn an extra $1 million if he wins the MVP award. The same incentive plan goes if Poole wins the Defensive Player of the Year. He’ll make another $500,000 if he makes it to any of the All-NBA teams and the same plan would follow if he was to make it to any of the All-Defensive teams. All these incentives would add up to $4.25 million a year, extending his guaranteed salary to $140 million. It will be interesting to see how much of these incentives will be exercised in the next four years.
