Josh Giddey surpasses Russell Westbrook for insane double-double record as OKC cruise past Trail Blazers

Josh Giddey

Josh Giddey is an Australian professional Basketball player who was drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2021 Draft of the National Basketball Association as the 6th pick overall in the first round. Since his past years in Australia are very promising. The Oklahoma City Thunder drafted this young gun as the team is building a young core around franchise star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey fits in perfectly.

Recently, the Oklahoma City Thunder hosted the Portland Trailblazers at Paycom Center. After the first half, the Oklahoma City Thunder picked up the pace and closed it for the Trailblazers as they came back and got the lead. The final box score stands at 98-81. The Oklahoma City Thunder are currently ranked as the fourteenth seed in the western conference with the record of 15 wins and 34 losses at .306 as they have initiated a rebuild since the Big three left. On the other hand, the Portland Trailblazers are currently ranked as the tenth seed in the western conference with the record of 21 wins and 30 losses at .412 as they struggle without their leader and primary guard Damian Lillard who is sidelined due to injuries.

In the match-up playing for 33 minutes, Josh Giddey dropped 14 points, 4 assists and 12 rebounds as he made history and surpassed Russell Westbrook for a stat score. Registering a double-double for himself, Josh Giddey now has surpassed Russell Westbrook for the most double-doubles by any rookie in OKC’s history. He also leads the current rookies for the count. Josh has eleven double-doubles while Russell in his whole rookie season had only ten. The season still has a good number of games left for OKC so we may find the bar rising higher as Josh Giddey puts up big things with good numbers every match he suits up for.

Josh Giddey in just some years will be an important piece of the team as he is a better and improved player every day. His athletic nature and explosiveness while being 6 ft. 6 inches big really makes him a strong player who can revolve around and shift places. He just has to improve his shooting skills and develop a better jumper something which will help him run the offensive end easily as he will have a bag full of skills to either drive-in or pull up.

The future of Oklahoma City Thunder looks in great hands as Josh Giddey is breaking some new record every other week from being the youngest to score a triple-double to being the youngest player to reach 500 points, 200 rebounds and 200 assists since LeBron James. Oklahoma City Thunder would always be willing to build around such players and make them a star as we saw the journey of Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant and James Harden.
