Chris Canty on Russell westbrook
In a post-game interview, Russell Westbrook got furious at a reporter who questioned him on changes that needed to be made for the team. The Los Angeles Lakers had just been defeated by the Dallas Mavericks in a must-win game to stay in the play-in tournament. Westbrook felt the need to clap back at the reporter making it seem like the question was an attack on his game.
After being asked to address their loss slipping down to 11th place in the Western Conference, he said, “Nothing. We still got games to play, other teams got still got games to play. We still got to play teams that’s above us in the play-ins. What do you think should change? I don’t have the answer.” In an obvious misunderstanding, the reporter simply defended himself saying, “I don’t have it. I don’t play Russell. I’m asking the pros who know the game and play the game.”
Russell Westbrook fails to lead the Lakers past the Mavericks
The Los Angeles Lakers had to face yet another upset against one of the better teams in their conference, the Dallas Mavericks. In a game that did not experience the presence of LeBron James, the team was left with Russell Westbrook to lead the pack. The Mavs dominated the first three quarters of the game scoring 43 points during the first 12 minutes alone. They won 128-110 over the Lakers sending them to the 11th seed and out of the play-ins.
Westbrook recorded 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists shooting 9 of 17 attempts from the field. Malik Monk finished the game with 28 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists followed by a combined total of 28 points from Stanley Johnson and Talen Horton-Tucker. Luka Doncic brought home the victory with a triple-double of 34 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists. Six other players from the Mavs roster had double digits scored.
Chris Canty slams Russell Westbrook for unnecessary attitude thrown at reporter
Chris Canty opened up on ESPN about the way Westbrook handled the question. He criticized the player for his unnecessary attitude towards the reporter and urged him to be more aware which would evade the answer of “I don’t have an answer.” He said, “The only thing that I’m asking Russell Westbrook to do is to have some awareness and understand that tone an tact matter when you deliver your post-game press conference address.”
“The fact that you answer a question with a question in the fashion that he did it, there is no reason to be passive-aggressive against media members, they’ve got a job to do. So when they ask you what is wrong or what needs to change, you give your honest assessment on what you think it is or if you don’t have the answer say you don’t have the answer. But don’t turn it around on them and say, ‘what do you think needs to change?’”
