Kings star Domantas Sabonis suspended by NBA for bumping referee
Domantas Sabonis
The Sacramento Kings made headlines when they acquired All-Star capable Domantas Sabonis as their center in the 2021-22 season. However, during the team’s latest showdown against the Knicks, the 25-years-old bumped into the referee. As a result of which, he has been suspended by the league for the next game.
The NBA’s President of League Operations, Byron Spruell announced the punishment earlier suggesting that Domantas Sabonis made alleged contact with game official. To those who missed the particular play during the Kings vs Knicks showdown, Sabonis was handed a technical foul for unsportsmanlike spirit after he disagreed with a foul call with one of the game officials.

NBA Suspends Kings’ Center Domantas Sabonis
According to the NBA’s official statement, “Reacted demonstratively again in the vicinity of the game official, and approached and bumped the official in a hostile manner.”
In the video, one can see Domantas clearly lose his cool and does seem to make contact with the official, albeit minimal. Domantas Sabonis received a second technical foul and was ultimately ejected from the game. So, he was unable to see the Kings squander their double-digit lead to the Knicks.
The league said Sabonis will serve his suspension Wednesday night, when the Kings host the Denver Nuggets at Golden 1 Center.
Apart from Domantas Sabonis’s suspension, the Sacramento Kings are 24-43, sitting 13th in the Western Conference. With just over 15 games to spare, the Kings surely need a miracle to qualify for the play-in tournament. But now, with their marquee center out for at least one-game, the road can get tougher, especially when a player like Nikola Jokic steps on the court against them.
With a season which has been all about underdogs and fairy tale stories, will we see another turn around happening? Who knows. I guess only time will unravel all answers as the hooping festivity continues in the 2021-22 NBA Season.
