Klay Thompson Returns: Will the Splash Brother be a FLOP or make Warriors Championship favorite?

Draymond Green, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson

After missing two entire seasons in the NBA, Golden State Warriors marquee Klay Thompson is all set to return. Not only has this news got the Dub Nation excited, but NBA fans all over the world have been made to crave for witnessing the scoring prowess of the five-time All-Star. Moreover, given the position of the Golden State Warriors in the 2021-22 season, the bigger questions remain? Will Thompson hold back Steve Kerr’s team in some way or is his presence going to make the superior army amongst others?

As per Basketball Reference, Klay Thompson has played 615 games in the NBA and has managed to register an average of 19.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Now with Thompson returning against the Cleveland Cavaliers, where does he fit into the system of Steve Kerr? And could he hamper the game-time of any other player who has contributed significantly so far for the Dubs?

Klay Thompson drawbacks and benefits for Warriors

Klay Thompson has highly quick feet and can close out marquee scorers while being on the defensive end very efficiently. Even in the past, Thompson’s presence has helped Draymond Green on the defensive end more as compared to Stephen Curry. Talking about his offensive skillset, Thompson is not a dunker, but more of a swift shooter, who likes to use his feet in scoring shots from downtown.

Known as the splash of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson is all about dagger threes, and jumper efficiency. Now, with torn ACL, fans might be aware that Thompson’s movement and game-time might take a slow and sluggish start in fast-paced games. With players like Gary Payton II and Jordan Poole making a name for themselves in the 2021-22 season, Thompson’s presence could hamper the game-time of younger players when the season goes in deep.

Having said that, Thompson’s return was one of the most awaited comebacks in the history of NBA and now with the scenario actually happening, all eyes (for once) will be on the new Thompson rather than Stephen Curry or any other Golden State Warriors.
