The dunk contest to any hoop fanatic is known for the deadly shows on the rim. Over the years, marquee players like Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Zach LaVine, Aaron Gordon among others have set record-breaking showdowns and matchups. However, as we approached the highly anticipated 2022 Dunk Contest, fans inside as well as outside the stadium left interest as all four dunkers performed way beyond expectations.
Be it Cole Anthony, Obi Toppin, Jalen Green or Juan Toscano – all four of these participants not only had numerous retakes for each of their dunk. But could not register a single crowd-applauding 50-point screamer. Which even resulted in Dwayne Wade and Reggie Miller to comment that, “This Dunk Contest was a 6.”

The competition started with Cole Anthony creating a lot of hype as his father presented him with Mountain Boots to dunk in. But after several re-takes it seemed like the vibe of the Dunk Contest was already killed. In the first round itself, Houston Rockets’ Jalen Green could not produce a dunk in more than 6-attempts, perhaps what sums up the event.
However, there was good news for the New York Knicks’ fans as Obi Toppin finally got his hands over the silverware by beating Juan Toscano in the final round. Safe to say, what a contrast of showdown it was form the 2016 Dunk Contest involving Zach LaVine and Aaron Gordon.

That being said, this event marked the end of Day 2 of the All-Star weekend as now all eyes will be on the ultimate showdown of the big guns, running up against one another on Sunday. Who will emerge victorious? Will LeBron James be able to stretch his streak to 5-games as a captain? Or will Kevin Durant less team will make heat-waves by beating the favorites? Remains to be seen.
