Latest stat suggests Brooklyn Nets need to pull off the ‘Never Seen Before’ scenario in order to lift championship this season

Brooklyn Nets Big 3

The Brooklyn Nets are on the verge of becoming one of the biggest busts in NBA history. The team when first put together with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in the 2019-20 NBA season, everyone was excited and expected them to be contenders once both the stars returned. And it started exactly as expected for the Nets, only a tad bit late as it started in the 2020-21 season.

Before the deadline, Brooklyn Nets found a way to get James Harden from the Houston Rockets to their team to make it one of the most offensively dangerous teams in recent memory. Cut to 2022, the same Brooklyn Nets are 29-23, good enough for only 6th seed in the Eastern Conference. Their best player Kevin Durant remains out due to the injury and Kyrie Irving continues to be limited to away games.

The Nets have now lost their last seven games. Two of these games included both Harden and Irving in the lineup. One of those games was against one of the worst teams in the league who were missing their best player – the Sacramento Kings. This turmoil for the Nets comes at a time when the trade deadline is just around the corner. There are ‘reports’ saying James Harden is not happy with the team and in New York. One can expect the locker room to be dealing with a lot of negativity right now.

This can end in a bust for the Nets’ superteam as James Harden might say goodbye to the Nets to explore other options this off-season. Howsoever unlikely, James Harden may even be traded before the deadline. With Kyrie out for home games and Durant and Joe Harris out due to injuries, this will be a tough road ahead for the Nets.

How bad is the situation for the Brooklyn Nets?

Courtesy StatMuse, no team has ever won a championship after being on a 7-game skid in the regular season. The Nets are 2-8 since Kevin Durant went out and this record can be safely predicted to get worse. James Harden is currently on a Day-to-day status and the Nets have five of their next 10 games on road, meaning Kyrie will be available for half of them.

However, championship or no championship, Brooklyn Nets’ Big 3 or superteam’s failure (if they are to fail) will not be about the competency or their fit in the least (like the Lakers). It will be more about untimely injuries and Covid mandates. The Nets are not the perfect team or an unbeatable team and they would have been beaten due to their poor defense, but they would not have been written off if it were not for their players’ unavailabilities.
