“LeBron James has played with a lot of stars, except Russell Westbrook” Colin Cowherd questions Brodie’s work rate while playing alongside stars
LeBron James, Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant
Over the course of 19 years since LeBron James has stepped foot in the NBA, he has played alongside plenty of superstars whilst representing Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers. In his 19th season, the King was paired with former MVP, Russell Westbrook with the hope of leading the purple and gold franchise to their record-breaking championship number. Yet the reality proved to be quite the opposite.
LeBron James who managed to elevate the game of the other star playing alongside him, be it – Kyrie Irving, Dwayne Wade or Anthony Davis, this time around things weren’t the same. On the same note, Colin Cowherd too questioned the work rate of Russell Westbrook and raised eyebrows of many whether or not, he could work around stars? Surely an interesting take you should not miss.
Colin Cowherd on Russell Westbrook
Now with the LA Lakers’ season coming to an end before many had expected, Brodie too was on the stage up early. However, Westbrook’s exit-interview this season was shocking to many as he practically called out James and Davis for not allowing him to be at his best, ruffled more than a few feathers.
Colin Cowherd was just one of many analysts who couldn’t believe what they were hearing from the Lakers’ struggling point guard.
“There are players who get it immediately – LeBron James. Players who get it eventually – Carmelo Anthony and players who never get it – Westbrook. Kevin Durant has played with lots of stars; he’s worked with all of them, except Westbrook. LeBron has played with lots of stars; he’s worked with all of them, except Westbrook. But it’s somebody else’s fault.”
Talking about the precise stats, although Westbrook was present on the floor more than LeBron and Davis yet his numbers were not inspiring. In the 55 games Russell Westbrook and James played together, the LA Lakers had a pathetic 25-30 record. They were a failure despite James playing near MVP-level and with Westbrook averaging 17.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game.
That being said, all eyes will now be on whether or not Westbrook is able to find himself representing the Lakers in the 2022-23 season. Having a strong contract could be on his side, but will the purple and gold sacrifice AD? Remains to be seen.
