When the 15th seeded Houston Rockets were scheduled to lock horns against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Toyota Center, many expected the purple and gold army to clean sweep the series, regardless of their poor form. Moreover, the boost to their expectations were uplifted when LeBron James too decided to start the game. However, despite the match going down to the wire, it was Jalen Green inspired Rockets who emerged victorious.

While the Lakers elaborated upon their defensive vulnerabilities, the centre of criticism came to LeBron James, who evidently decided to pass the ball in the dying seconds rather than making a reverse layup, on a no-guarded rim. The ball went into the hands of veteran Carmelo Anthony who missed his tough jumper. And it was Houston Rockets, who managed to win their first game against the Lakers in the 2021-22 season, in OT.

Talking about LeBron James’ decision to pass the ball, rather than making the winning layup, Stephen A. Smith out-busted on the 37-years-old.

Stephen A. Smith on First Take suggested, “When it comes to the GOAT conversation, you’re talking about those moments where you say to other people, ‘move the hell out the way. Let me close this for you so we can go the hell home.’ That’s not what [LeBron James] did last night.”

Stephen does make a valid point. Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are regarded as the GOATs of NBA, majorly based upon their clutch ability and the fact that they did want to take the important shot, to call the game. On numerous occasions, have these both legends missed the ever-so-important shot, but it was them who decided to lead their team.

Against the Rockets everybody knew, it was going to be LeBron James, who was wanting the ball in his arms. But should he have passed? Will always be a matter of speculation.

For now, the Lakers have 17 games, to make a difference and find their consistency. Will they be able to find their lost form? Remains to be seen.
