Nets star Ben Simmons’ target date vs Celtics revealed
Ben Simmons
Ben Simmons is rumored to potentially make his Brooklyn Nets debut against their first-round opponents, Boston Celtics. The Nets were not the best team this season despite being the favorites to capture the throne by the end of the year. They started off well reaching the top for the first few months of the season but gradually stepped down due to injuries and improper scheduling.
The Nets were able to capture their spot in the post-season after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 115-108. Kyrie Irving led the team with 34 points, 12 assists, and 3 rebounds shooting 12-15 from the field. Kevin Durant also had a double-double of 25 points, 11 assists, and 5 rebounds. Their shooting splits were .535%/.321%/.667% from the field, three-point range, and free throw line respectively. Defensively they made a push finishing the game with 9 blocks and 9 steals.
Ben Simmons Injury Update
Ben Simmons has not played a single game this year and was traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Nets in exchange for James Harden. The situation between Simmons and his former team led to the blockbuster trade but his Nets debut was cut short after experiencing a Herniated Disc in the back. Since then, Simmons has been traveling with the team and has been present for pre-game shootarounds.
As the season was on the closeout for the Nets, reporters asked Head Coach Steve Nash about the recent updates on the possible debut of Simmons. He said, “I have no idea. I don’t know where these reports come from. We have no update on the timetable.” Nash would later say that Simmons has not started working on his legs nor has he gone past 1-0 training sessions yet.
Brian Windhorst gives an update on Ben Simmons’ season debut with the Nets
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the All-NBA defensive guard is planning to return to the game during the first round of the playoffs. Based on his workout progression, the reporter claims that he is yet to participate in 5-on-5 scrimmages with the team. Simmons could possibly start team scrimmages by the end of this week, said Windhorst.
Ben Simmons’ return could be a breakthrough for the Nets in the playoffs as the team lacks a proper defensive piece. Simmons has been a defense-oriented player since the beginning of his career in the NBA. Last year, he finished second in voting for the Defensive Player of the Year behind the Utah Jazz’s Rudy Gobert. He also made the NBA All-defensive teams with 200 points.
