5 Major future destinations for Kevin Durant as DRAMATICAL Brooklyn Nets on the verge of falling apart

The situation within the Brooklyn Nets organization is worsening every day with Kyrie Irving being suspended for at least 5 games and the Nets firing Steve Nash as head coach. NBA commissioner Adam Silver publicly criticized Kyrie Irving for his antisemitism post on social media and refused to apologize.

Now that everything in Brooklyn is going haywire and the duo is unlikely to work in the near future it is highly likely that Brooklyn wouldn’t try to break the team and rebuild again. Star Kevin Durant has even more reasons to push for his trade. Kyrie and Durant requesting for trades again the next offseason are more than likely if the Nets do not win the championship this 2022-23 season.

The Suns and Heat reportedly topped Kevin Durant’s list of ideal destinations when he officially sought a trade from the Nets this offseason. But the organization refused to comply with Durant’s demand and he was forced to stay with the team. There are very less amount of trade scenarios that make any sense for Durant and the Brooklyn Nets. But here are some of the trade destinations that make sense for the star:

Now that Kevin Durant has good reasons to back up a possible trade request in the future, these are the top five teams that he could end up on. A few of these teams have formerly been listed as his preferred destinations as well.

1. Phoenix Suns

This is most likely the best that the Nets can do for Durant in terms of young players. The Nets acquire a youthful wing nucleus that instantly transforms Brooklyn into a 3-and-D team around Irving in Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson. It makes a lot of sense to start with Irving, Simmons, Bridges, Johnson, and Nic Claxton; that athletic fivesome could contend in the East.

Devin Booker, an All-Star for Phoenix is another player who Durant is acquainted with and has openly complimented on Twitter as a “confirmed bucket.” As members of the 2020 U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team, they captured a gold medal in Tokyo. Durant and Suns head coach Monty Williams previously collaborated while Williams was an assistant with Oklahoma City in 2015–16.

2. Miami Heat

Although Durant isn’t a free agent and can’t choose where he plays but Pat Riley’s prospective offer might be strong enough to satisfy everyone. Miami owns all but one of its own first-round picks in the following seven years. The team’s lone obligation is to the Thunder in 2025 (or 2026).

However, a prospective deal’s primary focus might not be draught compensation. Heat would need to include one of its star players to match the right talent and salary transfer for Kevin Durant. Since the Heat has already given Tyler Herro a maximum extension the deal seems even more challenging to go through.

3. Oklahoma City Thunder

Durant going to the Thunder is not a very likely situation but the current roaster of the Thunder makes perfect sense for the Nets’ superstar. Since Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has already signed a max extension with the team, Thunder might have to give up most of its roaster to acquire Kevin Durant. KD also has a strong history filled with success and a superstar like him can certainly lead a young franchise like OKC.

4. New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans are the team the Nets should highly consider if they want to trade for Kevin Durant but value picks more than players in the trade. According to Sports Illustrated, New Orleans will have first-round picks and a pick swap with the Lakers in 2023, two first-round picks and a pick swap in 2024, two first-round picks in 2025, a first-round pick and a choose swap in 2026 and two first-round picks in 2027. The Pelicans are very likely to have a championship run with Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum if Durant gets added to their lineup.

5. Philadelphia 76ers

With Harden’s foot injury complicating matters the Sixers and Nets are both off to poor starts and don’t seem great as of right now. Both clubs would be upended by a Kevin Durant move to Philadelphia and the Nets would be put on the road to a rebuild thanks to the young and talented Tyrese Maxey and Matisse Thybulle. Tobias Harris could also be used in luring Durant to come to Philadelphia but he has two years left in his contract which does not make him an asset until next season.
