With more international players entering the NBA, the sport has been slowly dominated by international talents and the idea of a Team USA vs Team World for the All-Star Weekend has been floating recently.

During between Game 2 and Game 3 of the NBA Finals, League Commissioner Adam Silver entertained the idea of implementing a match between players of the USA and international players to take place during All-Star Weekend and the same idea was brought up earlier this year by the Competition Committee as per the commissioner.

Adam Silver’s comment on this: “It’s not a new idea. When it’s come up historically, we thought there would be such an imbalance not because of the competition on the floor but in fairness to the players. Even now as it continues to grow, more than 25% of our players have been born outside the United States. So, you’re picking from one pool of 25% and another of 75%, it might not be fair,With the increase in the number of international players and talent level between the ‘world’ players this problem would become non-existent very soon.

Although this format has been used before in the NBA Rising Stars Game, the idea here is to replace the actual NBA All-Star game main event with the USA vs World match, which would feature the top talents instead of rookies unlike in the rising stars game.

The international pool has serious talents as the previous 5 MVPs were all won by international players with Giannis and Jokic both winning two each and Joel Embiid winning one this year, even the projected number 1 pick in the draft, Victor Wembanyama is a player from France.

It has already been confirmed that the Match would not take place in next year’s All-Star Game in Indianapolis but the possibility of it happening in the future is very much entertained by the League Commissioner.

After Adam Silver floated the idea of the Team World vs Team USA, fans quickly took to Twitter to clown the idea of the match with some saying that it would be too unfair for the players in the US.

The best players in the NBA are mostly international players currently, with players like Luka Doncic, Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic dominating the league. To show the rise in international talent, only one USA-born player made the All-NBA first team this season, with Jayson Tatum qualifying on the list as an American-born player.

Fans are not ready to see their beloved country getting ‘clapped.’ You can check the reactions below:

In the League’s attempt to make the NBA more Globally expanded, the idea of Team USA vs Team World can spur engagement from international fans who might have a player representing their own country compete against the powerhouse of the sport.
