Adam Silver says Kyrie Irving is NOT antisemitic after having a ‘direct and candid conversation’ with him
Kyrie Irving and Adam Silver
NBA commissioner Adam Silver met suspended Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving recently after Irving faced backlash for posting a movie link with antisemitic content. Moreover, he has been assigned a to-do list, and only after its completion will he be allowed to join the Nets camp. Adam stated it was a very ‘optimistic’ and ‘fruitful’ meeting.
Adam Silver spoke about the meeting a week later in an interview with ‘The New York Times,’ where he quoted, “We had a direct and candid conversation. He’s someone I’ve known for a decade, and I’ve never heard an antisemitic word from him or, frankly, hate directed at any group.” Adam himself is Jewish and seems to have taken a stand with Kyrie. This meeting was held at the NBA league’s headquarters in Manhattan.
Silver added further in a telephonic conversation, “Whether or not he is antisemitic is not relevant to the damage caused by the posting of hateful content.” Adam denied giving a detailed insight as he has promised Kyrie that he would not disclose much of the details. His interview was the first public appearance he made since Kyrie made the ‘controversial’ tweet.
Boston Celtics star not ‘happy’ with the list of the terms given to Kyrie Irving to make a return
Boston Celtics’ player Jaylen Brown and the National Basketball Players Association have disagreed with the list of the terms given to suspended player Kyrie Irving to complete if he wants to play again. Jaylen told the ‘Boston Globe’ that he doesn’t believe Kyrie is antisemitic, and even the governing bodies believe the same. Jaylen also said that he did make a ‘highly sensitive’ mistake which does not condone hate speech.
Irving was suspended for at least five games and will take court only if he goes through the terms, which include an apology and a donation of the agreed-upon sum of $500,000 to organizations that fight hate. Irving will also have to complete sensitivity training, complete antisemitic/anti-hate training.
Then he has to meet with Anti-Defamation League and Jewish leaders in Brooklyn and meet again with Nets officials, including team owner Joe Tsai and assure him that he will not behave in such a way further ahead. Kyrie has got himself into much trouble as he faces red signs everywhere. Everyone will hope Kyrie will be a ‘changed’ man after he makes a comeback soon to the league.
