AJ Griffin after hitting the buzzer beater
Atlanta Hawks registered a close win over the Chicago Bulls in the last face-off. Atlanta’s young star AJ Griffin was the difference between the teams as he scored the final basket as the buzzer went off. Fans were awestruck seeing such an effort from Griffin, but know that this is not the first time he stood up in a close match.
It was a closely contested match, but the Chicago Bulls dominated most of the regulation time match. However, they couldn’t hold on to their grip on the Hawks. Derrick Jones Jr. was fouled with just 0.4 seconds left. He made his first free throw count but missed the second. Bogdanovic then grabbed the rebound to score a basket which took the game to overtime, tied 110-110. During overtime, Trae Young hit a step-back shot from the top in the final few seconds to put Atlanta ahead 121-119.
Then, Bogdan Bogdanovic fouled DeMar DeRozan on a 3-point attempt with just 0.5 seconds left, and he made all three free throws count to put the Bulls ahead 122-121. Jalen Johnson had the ball in the last half of a second, and he quickly passed the ball to Griffin in the lane, where AJ had the winning flip shot. Griffin, who initially had his back to the basket, caught the pass mid-air and converted the acrobatic bucket before getting mobbed by his teammates. NBA fans stormed Twitter with reactions, some of which can be seen below:
