Allen Iverson is arguably one of the best guards of the 2000s and even in the history of the NBA. The Philadelphia Sixers legend dominated the 2000s basketball with his scoring prowess but failed to win an NBA championship.
Throughout Iverson’s Sixers career, he had many run-ins with other NBA legends, and he met his biggest competitor there. Iverson credited Shaquille O’Neal and the Los Angeles Lakers as the biggest obstacle stopping him from winning an NBA Championship.
The Big Diesel and the Answer recently exchanged a conversation on social media. Under an Instagram post, Shaq appreciated Iverson, ensuring the 6-foot guard was a bonafide baller.
The interaction between the two started when Iverson posted a picture of him and Shaq, implying that Big Diesel was his biggest deterrent from winning the NBA title. The Lakers legend quickly encouraged the guard that he don’t need a Championship to prove his greatness and influence.
Iverson wrote in his Instagram caption, “The only reason I don’t have a ring LOL.” Shaq quickly responded, “U don’t need one. You one of the greatest and a hall of fame first ballot no questions asked.”
In 2001, Shaq’s Lakers and Iverson gave us one of the greatest one-man shows in NBA Finals history. The Sixers lost the series as Iverson was surrounded by a supporting cast built for defense featuring a lackluster offense.
Whenever a debate regarding Iverson is brought up, the lack of a championship in his NBA resume is always mentioned. Getting a nod from a force like Shaq reveals the shooting guards’ greatness. However, the Answer’s failure to win a ring will be a stain that will stay with him forever.
Allen Iverson’s historic NBA Finals Series against the Lakers

In 2001, Allen Iverson was an offensive force to be reckoned with, carrying a mediocre Philadelphia Sixers team to the NBA Finals. That year Iverson won the MVP award, becoming the shortest guard ever to get the nod.
After a series of unraveling performances from Iverson, the 2000 NBA MVP gave Kobe Bryant and Shaq a scoring nightmare and their only loss in that Finals series. He scored a Finals classic 48-points to gain a victory from the Lakers, and it was the only loss the Lakers suffered throughout that post-season run.
Although the Lakers won the series in five games, it cemented Iverson in the history books as one the best scorers in basketball, especially at his size. He averaged 35.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in those five games in the NBA Finals and never scored below 20 points in any of the Finals matches.
Allen Iverson’s Sixers surprised many when they made the Finals, as the whole team rode on the backbone of the guard’s offensive ability. The 2001 NBA Finals run from Iverson remains a classic for basketball fans and diehards.
