“I’m a huge fan of his” – Andre Iguodala believes Anthony Edwards is a bigger talent than Dwayne Wade
Anthony Edwards, the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, was a major part of the Wolves’ success getting them into the playoffs after over a decade of fighting. He averaged 21.3 points along with 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game shooting 44.1% from the field and 35.7% from beyond the arc making 3 per game. Minnesota’s success was very short lived after going 2-4 against the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round. However, Andre Iguodala believes that the rookie has a long way to go.
Anthony Edwards has shown bursts of his amazing potential, improving drastically from his rookie year in the NBA. The former Georgia Bulldog was even an essential piece in the Wolves’ play-in tournament run, which saw led to much excitement in Minnesota. The young gun has exploded onto the scene with the T-Wolves and is already looking like a superstar in the making. Here is what Andre Iguodala said in his podcast with Evan Turner –
“When I saw this kid hit me, he went in and out, he turned the corner so fast I said ‘Oh My God’. It took like a half second for me to think he’s got, I think he has more talent than Dwyane Wade. Since you know they want sometimes, people they want us to geekout on basketball, y’all want to geek out on basketball, Anthony Edwards , and then we’re going to put this on yeah on Instagram and all those places because y’all want to get this stuff on, He has more talent than Dwyane Wade now will he fulfill his talent that remains to be seen” Iggy explained.
This is an interesting take, as Dwayne Wade himself believed in 2021 that Edwards can be a much more efficient player than he was. While Anthony Edwards had also previously stated that he feels he can be a better player than Dwayne Wade.
“His name is Dwayne Wade. I look on the TV and say I can be that guy or I can be better than him.” While these are big words coming from a new talent, he has the skillset and the Game IQ to back it up. There is no doubt that Anthony Edwards is a special player. However, it is going to take a lot of hard work and dedication if he is going to live up to Andre’s and even Dwayne’s expectations.
