Two months after his surprising trade from the Golden State Warriors to the Washington Wizards, Jordan Poole is believed by his former teammate, Andre Iguodala, to have an outstanding season. The trade, which saw the Warriors acquiring Chris Paul, has left the 24-year-old in an advantageous position to lead the Wizards.

“He was the only one that got to the (free throw) line for us consistently,” said Iguodala, emphasising Poole’s significant role in the Warriors. Iguodala further remarked, “People act like he had a bad year…and he averaged 20? And they (the Wizards) have no expectations for winning. Twenty-five plus (points per game) easy.”

The NBA veteran also mentioned Poole’s potential to be a crowd favorite. “Then at home, you gotta give him the whistle at home,” Iguodala said. “He’s gonna average 30 at home. You know it’s Chocolate City, so you know they’re gonna be in the stands. You know they have the memes – every time he see a bad chick, he goes for 40.”

Poole’s growth as a player was partially restricted during his tenure with the Warriors, given that he played alongside stars like Stephen CurryKlay ThompsonDraymond Green, and Andrew Wiggins. “Not saying he was in handcuffs,” Iguodala said, “You gotta restrict him a little bit, or it’ll be too chaotic.”

However, his move to the Wizards allows him to take center stage, particularly after the departure of Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis. The change also comes with increased responsibilities. Iguodala noted, “Instead of being the little brother, Poole is gonna have to step up into a big brother role.”

Despite the challenge, early indicators suggest Poole is already embracing his leadership role, as evidenced by his engagement with his new teammates. Reflecting on a recent conversation with Poole, Iguodala stated, “I’ve heard about what he’s been doing with his teammates… He’s tapped in …Like he’s leading them.”

Having just secured a four-year, $128 million extension, Poole is not about to sit back and celebrate. As Iguodala insightfully concluded, “He knows 120 starts next year, but then 200 comes in four years…He ain’t gonna stop on this contract.”
