Anthony Davis gives BIZARRE excuse for terrible performance in Lakers’ blowout loss to Warriors
The Golden State Warriors hosted the Los Angeles Lakers for Game 2 of the second round. The Lakers had prevailed in Game 1 after a tough 117-112 road win. The Warriors responded in Game 2 of the series with a blowout victory. After trailing in the first quarter, the home side went on a scoring avalanche, outscoring the Lakers 84-47 in the second and third quarters to end the game as a contest.
The game seemed to be in the control of the Lakers after the end of the first quarter. But Klay Thompson turned the tide and had a great night, finishing with eight triples, and 30 points. Meanwhile, Stephen Curry generated the most points, scoring 20 of them and dishing out 12 assists. The Lakers were led by LeBron James, putting up 23 points and seven rebounds. Anthony Davis, who was the Lakers’ lynchpin in their Game 1, had a terrible outing.
He had 11 points and seven rebounds, shooting 5 of 11 from the field, a far cry from his exceptional Game 1 performance, where he put up 30 points and 23 rebounds. Davis is currently leading the postseason in blocks, rejecting four shots a game. Though what was surprising was his excuse for his poor Game 2 performance.
“I took all the same shots I took in Game 1. I just missed ’em.”, said Davis. While his shot selection was pretty much the same, Davis did not really attempt as many field goals. He took 19 shots in Game 1, making almost 60% of them. So far into the series, Davis’ contribution on both ends of the floor has been the X-factor for the Lakers. He’s averaging 22 points and 15 rebounds this postseason, though he couldn’t meet those numbers in Game 2 against the Warriors.
Anthony Davis is a defensive powerhouse
Davis grabs 12 defensive rebounds and blocks four field goals a game. His contributions on the defensive end of the floor have been crucial for the Lakers. He has been the key to transition plays as well as securing rebounds. Looking at his numbers and past performance, Game 2 was just a bump in the road for the eight-time All-Star.
With the series tied at one apiece, the Lakers will have a great chance to take a big lead, as Games 3 and 4 are scheduled in L.A. While the Lakers will have the home-court advantage, Davis’ performance will likely be a crucial one for the outcome.
