Like every icon of the game, there was that rookie moment of him/herself that completely left that person starstruck. One of those legends in the making of the game is Anthony Davis. Like every basketball ball fan growing up, one player always has that moment that disconnects you from reality. A feeling that feels surreal, and Davis shared a story similar to what happened during one of those moments while playing for the USA National team.
Sharing his experience of feeling that cloud-9 moment in his early days as a professional player, he said:
I was so starstruck. It hit me. We were in the locker room and I forgot to put my jersey on. So I got my shirt on, I’m 220. I’ve got to wear sleeves. And we’re on the bench, we’re playing Nigeria and we’re up like 70. Coach K said, ‘AD you’re in.’
He would later describe when he was about to get ready, only to realize that he had forgotten to wear his jersey. And Kobe Bryant, who was red hot next to him questioned the player, captured in a photo that would go on to become one of those iconic moments.
It was the 2012 London Games, which the USA basketball team swept all the way to the very end of the final, winning against Spain in the finals. For a team that had Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, James Harden, and more it was evident that they would make a memorable moment. But for AD it was just being part of the team that will stay forever in his memories.
Team USA gear up for the 2024 Olympics
The Olympics is upon us and the USA basketball team is up and ready to play for their country. With 16 gold medals to their name, making it the most in history, it is yet another moment for the new generation to shine.
With the teams already announced and the inclusion of some of the hottest names of the game, it’s an ever-growing confident squad that looks to bring yet another gold. Steve Kerr, HC to the USA National team and Golden State Warriors, has already selected his 41-man squad. And it has not disappointed.
USA Basketball also announced plans for pre-Olympic games in Las Vegas and London. As they prepare to play Canada in Las Vegas on July 10, before exhibition games against South Sudan on July 20 and Germany on July 22 at London’s O2 Arena, it would be a great watch even as a neutral fan.
As time ticks, the excitement grows more and more. And for Anthony Davis, it’s reminiscent of the past and the journey he has made since then to the very top, hoping to add more glory to his already illustrious career.
