The Boston Celtics beat the Los Angeles Lakers in a dramatic overtime game on Saturday night thanks to grit and perhaps a little assistance from the referees. In the dying seconds of regulation, Jayson Tatum seemed to foul Lakers star LeBron James near the basket with the score tied. However, the referees decided to send the game into overtime rather than allowing James to try to secure L.A.’s victory from the free throw line. It’s all said in James’ breakdown following the play.

Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers observed what almost everyone else did at the conclusion of regulation against the Boston Celtics on Saturday night, with the exception of the referees on the court. Speaking to reporters after the frustrating loss, Davis said, “It’s bullshit. It’s unacceptable. I guarantee you nothing’s gonna happen to the ref. We got cheated tonight. It’s a blatant foul… Refs were bad tonight.”

LeBron James too expressed his frustration with defeat, he said “I don’t get it. I’m attacking the paint just as much as any other guy in this league. That’s shooting double-digit free throws a night. I don’t get it, I don’t understand it.” He further added: “You guys seen some of the games we lost this year, with late-game missed calls. I don’t understand what we’re doing. And I watch basketball every single day. I watch these games every single game, and I don’t see it happen to nobody else. It’s just weird.”

Considering that crew chief Eric Lewis acknowledged in the pool report that the officials “missed” the call. Davis and the Lakers unquestionably have a case. There were no more challenges available for Lakers coach Darvin Ham to ask the officials to watch the play again on video. Ham, who usually refrains from criticizing the officials, was unable to downplay the influence they had on the game’s outcome on Saturday.

He said, “As much as you try not to put it on the officiating, it’s becoming increasingly difficult. The best player on earth can’t get a call. It’s amazing. It’s unfortunate that you know the game ends on a play like that. You don’t ask for favoritism you just ask for consistency that’s it”

LeBron James was fouled by Jayson Tatum on the final possession of the regulation period, according to the in-charge referee, Eric Lewis. Lewis claimed that the crew failed to see the action and the game’s fouls. At that point, the score was deadlocked at 105 apiece.

James would have gone to the line to shoot a pair of free throws if the Lakers had won the call. The Celtics had just a fraction of a second left in the game to bring the ball up the court, so converting even one of those would have probably done the trick.

The loss was difficult for the squad and its supporters to accept. Because LeBron James and co were the superior team for the majority of the game. Both coaches and players from the Lakers camp voiced their criticism of the referees.
