“We wanna make sure he’s continuously in a great space” Anthony Davis reassures that the Lakers intend on keeping Russell Westbrook this season

“We wanna make sure he’s continuously in a great space” Anthony Davis reassures that the Lakers intend on keeping Russell Westbrook this season

Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis extended his support to teammate Russell Westbrook in a recent press conference who was harshly criticized for his performance against the Portland Trailblazers. In the final seconds of the game, Westbrook took a failed jump shot which needless to say missed the basket and left everyone including LeBron James and AD visibly frustrated and went on to lose the game by a point.

Speaking in the press conference this is what Anthony Davis had to say about Russell Westbrook’s recent struggles, “As an organization last year, we saw it… We are supporting him and make sure that he doesn’t get caught up in it. We want to make sure he is continuously in great space. He was all smiles today and we wanna make sure that he know no matter what we are on his side. Whatever he needs from on and off the court, we are here.”

Russell Westbrook only had 10 points, six rebounds, and six assists on 4-15 (26.7%) shooting. The Lakers were also outscored 16-7 after head coach Darvin Ham replaced Westbrook with less than five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. However, during his postgame interview, LeBron James refused to blame Westbrook for the Lakers’ loss.

Russell Westbrook linked to a trade with Gordon Hayward

To enhance their squad, the Lakers sorely need additional shooting and frontcourt depth. Due to a lack of frontcourt depth, Darvin Ham has been forced to use three-guard lines in his first two games. Due to a lack of size in their frontcourt rotation, the Lakers have struggled on the boards.

A possible trade including Gordon Hayward, PJ Washington, and Kelly Oubre Jr. addresses the Los Angeles Lakers frontcourt, shooting, and wing depth. All three players stand 6’7″. Hayward and Washington have a career 37% average from deep. Meanwhile, Oubre is one of the league’s greatest 3-and-D wings.

Russell Westbrook being traded to the Hornets in exchange for Hayward would not be too bad. Over the last year, there has been no shortage of trade speculation concerning Brodie. Possible trades with the Indiana Pacers and Utah Jazz have been discussed on NBA Twitter. However, a deal with Charlotte may make sense for LA as they need to add wing depth.
